Things change,
Things adjust,
From its simplest form to the most complex,
One day it's a square
The next it's just long enough on two sides to be a rectangle
I love that word...
Rectangle ...
Anyways
The Duo we know as Youngblood Priest started with a different name, played with some of the best bands and worked hard to get there name out there for the people, showing off there skills as song writers and musicians, creating a whirlwind hodgepodge style, simple yet complex, funky rhythms with quiet atmospheric movements, distortion pedals turned up to eleven, all this noise trying to make something interesting for the listener, but also for themselves.
Started as a recording project for both members, guitarist/vocalist Jay-Bird Goody and drummer/programmer Erik Atkins where just friends that worked at two different stores in the same shopping plaza, meeting up with each other on breaks for conversations about what music they loved and complaining about the music that made there mind go numb, in these conversations Atkins would tell Goody that he needed to come over to his home to record some demos and hang out.
So...
Goody came over
The boys hung out,
Watched the Venture Brothers,
Listened to Tom Waits and Woven Hand,
Had some coffee,
Recorded some demos in the makeshift studio in Atkins' basement
Jammed
Practiced
And then picked up a phone and got themselves a show
It came along quite naturally
And very simply
Just like their music, simple and natural
But like most good band names now a days, there original name was taken, and after a lot of careful consideration, and a list that they wrote down on a starbucks cup sleeve, the boys decided on the name Youngblood Priest, it's the name of a fictional cocaine dealer trying to become free of the system, much like the boys, trying to free genres or scenes, just trying to make music for music sake, trying to wrap the listeners mind over all of there influences and hoping that you will enjoy the sound of the Youngblood Priest
