..One Last Goodbye

I'm putting off this sleep again.
Been trying so hard to pretend
that this is not the end,
that I'll find you someday.
And, I'm counting seconds
and taking deep breaths.
But nothing's helping.
No, nothing helps.

I hear an echo at my window.
A voice from long ago.
Words I never spoke.
And my heart is heavy with this farewell.

Each day we're getting older.
We move a little closer
to our untimely end.
With so much left to see
the world's a mystery so,
I say we seize this day
and find out what we're missing.

Let's watch the sunset.
We'll face our regrets and
let them fall away like leaves in changing seasons.
But the air is getting colder
and these days are getting shorter;
the summer's calling us home.
And my heart is heavy with this farewell.
