This is Wes the Mes, aka Wes the Messenger / Mesley Snipes. My family and friends are my life, along with my music and studio. I have travelled a long way to get where I am now and thank God every day for what I have been given. Consciousness is key. As for my accomplishments and some good 'ol name dropping, read on...
I am a dj first, a producer second and a mc third. This profile was created with the third in mind. Not to become some 'star' or because I'm 'hard' - I just LOVE TO MAKE BEATS, WRITE RHYMES, AND RAP. Definitely my therapy, and I always try to let whatever comes in that subliminal channel from the universe (???) come right back out the speakers. As for the mystery of my history, I was born and raised in Los Angeles county (Glendale & La Crescenta, to be exact) and spent about 10 years as a professional buyer for three of the most well-known (and respected) 'underground' record shops in Southern Callifornia during the 90's. Specifically, Beat-Non-Stop (Hollywood / Melrose), Higher Source (Huntington Beach) and WAX (Hollywood / Melrose). Luckily, I was able to travel the world a bit when I was active on the circuit, performing in Hawaii (Analog Renegades) - New York (Liquid Sky & Temple Records) - Puerto Rico - and all throughout Germany (Battery Park Festivals 1 & 3, headlining with Air Liquide and Jamie Lidell). Sadly, I had to pass on London (Liquid Sky Vs. Harvest, headlining with Air Liquide, Khan and Freddy Fresh, to name a few), but at home held a residency Sundays on the rooftop at The Standard / Downtown LA, and played countless underground parties throughout Hollywood & Los Angeles during the peak of that era. I was also lucky enough to travel to the Bahamas and the French Riviera / Martinique on some you've-been there-too? type shiz. The styles I represent are all across the board : ambient, breakbeats, downtempo, d&b, dub, dubstep, experimental, funk, house, hip-hop, idm, tech-house, techno, reggae, roots, soul & world. My dj career, however, is on hiatus, due to establishing two record labels, running a recording studio, and managing a multimedia design firm the last few years.
As a producer, I have worked with underground LA legends Darkleaf (Half of the Unity Committee - who's knowing?), The Shapeshifters (Circus & AWOL), Existereo and his brother, Innaspace, Metfly (aka Andre Legacy, Mickey Avalon's right hand man, who also came through The Enclave studios at Sunset & Fairfax back in '97/98), soon-to-be legendary producers the Coomes Brothers aka TYCOON & E.DANGER (Lettuce / Fire Deptartment Productions / DJ Quick / Busta Rhymes / Anthony Hamilton / Pussycat Dolls / Proud to say that Ty has worked with Diane Warrin too, who is one of the biggest hit songwriters in the industry - you da man!!!), Jud Nester ('You Shoulda Seen Her On MySpace' and a GRIP of new stuff the world is about to hear), Lloyd Hemmings (Sugar Minot / Don Carlos), Jereme James, MC Pragmatic and Microphone Matt (aka Monster Matt from The Lock). Currently, I am working on a 3 series vinyl release for my 'major' record label, VLM / Violet Lantern Music, but created this particular profile (and a new 'digital' label, Precious Mental) to share / sell my solo hip-hop joints. As far as my music is concerned, I consider myself a 'Procrastinating Perfectionist' (the title of my upcoming album), because I have been recording tracks for almost 15 years and have only released 2. The first was an all-analog environment (meaning no samples were used, just a Roland TR808, TR909, SH101, TB303 and MC-50 sequencer with midi/cv conversion, and a few effects) on a 12" entitled the Mikoyan EP - released by Zhark Recordings out of Berlin, Germany / 1998. The second release, a joint effort with fellow producer (and brother from another mother) Scotty Coats just came out this May as a limited Japanese 12" on the label Rong Music out of New York. The domestic release with remixes is currently in the works. Finally, as a MC, I have been writing rhymes since 1988 and (somewhat) rhyming since 1998, with a diverse display of styles, sounds, concepts and production that I consider all my own. Hopefully, the feeling's mutual. This is where my 'blog' ended before, but for all you name droppers out there, check my blog entitled 'a lilttle about me(s)' on my profile at myspace.com/westhemessenger.
