Where do I begin? I learn from everyone, but certain artists have affected me profoundly-
Vocal Influences- First and foremost, John Schlitt of Headeast and Petra-amazing pipes!; Steve Marriott, short cockney Brit; Sammy Hagar, the Red Rocker; K-Max od CD Talk; Robert Plant of Zep; Freddy Mercury of Queen; Jeff Buckley (Rest In Peace); Steve Walsh of Kansas; and last but not least Bryan Duncan, almost of TOTO (wise career move, Bryan).
Songwriting Influences- Spock's Beard; Satch; Vai; Peter Gabriel; U2; Iona; Queensryche; Alan Parsons Project; Pink Floyd; the Apostle Paul; Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays; Yes; Peter Gabriel;King Crimson; Gentle Giant; Supertramp; Steely Dan; Dream Theatre; Rush; Creed; Emerson, Lake, and Palmer.........in no particular order...
The result sounds like all of the above placed lovingly in a blender with the blessing of the Holy Spirit...a sort of God prog-rock....
PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!!!
No accordions have been, or ever will be used in the making of music for VOX MAGNUS......ALSO-
ANY sounds or noises resembling a de-railing train load of screaming kittens, nuns, and orphans on fire going off a cliff into a pool of boiling oil is purely coincidental, and not the real thing....those would be guitar noises, as I am still learning.....
God is not insecure....just lonely for His lost Children. My experience in music came from playing in bars, arenas, concert halls, and touring with "label" rock acts all over the West Coast and Canada. I was "living the dream", or so I thought. Only after hitting bottom from living hard and fast could God get my attention.
He showed me that I had mis-used the talents and gifts He gave me...I had become egotistical and selfish. He opened the eyes of my heart and showed me how magnificent His love and grace really are. ...still, for me, music is the language of the soul. It speaks to everyone. As for myself, I am a musician who is Christian and am willing to impact others thru the gifts He gave me. There is no finer way to express yourself, give honor to those you love, and vent your feelings- joy, rage, love- than thru praise and worship music.
I am humbled that God gave me this gift, a heavenly catharsis...the louder the better. I am a songsmith, vox magnus, keyboardist, bassist, guitarist, and intellectual fool...Music is my passion, and that passion comes from Jesus Christ. Period....I'm Not into religion- that is something mankind makes for itself to satiate their guilty consciences.
The music that you hear comes from my heart's desire to create songs that provoke thought and lets your spirit rise. There are so many influences, that I guess you can label it as "God Prog Rock", if there is such a thing. To me, its all good.
I welcome your ears and friendship...Keep it Loud, Keep it True.
