L' ENFANCE ROUGE + le projet WAMEEDD en tournée /// (english below)

En novembre 2008, pour sa tournée européenne L' ENFANCE ROUGE (avant-rock, Tunisie/France/Italie) a invité WAMEED (électro-oriental, Palestine/Suisse), le projet de Kamilya Jubran & Werner Hasler. C'est un plateau cohérent et fortement iconoclaste qui vous est proposé.

Le but n'étant pas de faire sensation dans les églises rock ou world, mais d'aller plus loin, de casser les murs des paroisses musicales. L' objectif maintenant est d'impliquer les publics world et rock autant que les communautés maghrébines et orientales. « ... ce dont nous avons besoin, c'est que nos scientifiques, nos intellectuels, nos artistes, et aussi des gens ordinaires utilisent davantage de formes « profanes » tirant parti du pouvoir extraordinaire de la culture arabe... » Hicham Ben Abdallah El Alaoui - Le Monde Diplomatique / avril 2008.

Deux projets allant bien au-delà de la world-music bien formatée et à la mode pour occidentaux en mal d'orient, et très loin de tout orientalisme/tourisme colon/intellectuel.
L'ENFANCE ROUGE et WAMEED ne sont pas enfermés dans leur propre culture, mais en subissent seulement plus ou moins son influence.
L'ENFANCE ROUGE et WAMEED : la possibilité d'un échange culturel égalitaire, tout en montrant qu'une musique, dite moderne, peut très bien avoir une très forte identité orientale.

L' ENFANCE ROUGE: un combo franco-italien basé entre Berlin et Borj El Khadra. Plus de 1800 concerts depuis 1995, de Vilnius à Tbilissi, de Swinoujscie à Séville comme de Paris à Syracuse ; de festivals, théâtres et clubs en camps de réfugiés slovènes et croates durant l'avant-avant-avant-dernière guerre.
Avant-rock, atonal et électrique. Sans frontières, ni musicales ni géographiques. La presse européenne en parle comme un croisement entre introspection et accélération, entre cérébralisme, groove et transe.

TRAPANI ~ HALQ AL WAADY, enregistré entre Tunis (TN) et Lecce (I) est le nouvel album produit par L'ENFANCE ROUGE. Une certaine électricité sauvagement pan-occidentale fondue avec les fastes de la musique orientale. Une synergie créative entre larsens , feed-backs et ces fameux quarts de tons de la musique outre-méditerranéenne. Les arrangements sont signés Mohamed Abid, maître incontesté de 'oud au sein de l'Orchestre National de la Rachidia, compositeur et enseignant à l'Institut Supérieur de Musique de Tunis. Trapani-Halq al Waady : ligne Nord-Sud. Trapani , dernier port européen ; Halq al Waady, premier port Ifryqyen. « Trapani - Halq al Waady » est un disque atypique et communicatif, une détonante synergie entre avant-rock et musique orientale.

TOURNÉE:
Grâce à L' ANTIPODE (Rennes-F), à l'Institut Français de Coopération de Tunis et aux labels T-Rec (Paris-F) et Wallace Records (I), L' ENFANCE ROUGE a monté le spectacle de son dernier album récemment publié. A partir du mois d' avril 2008, le projet a commencé ses tournées en France et en Europe, en clubs, théâtres et festivals internationaux. L' ENFANCE ROUGE ira encore plus loin : en janvier et février 2009 elle sera en tournée en Afrique du Nord, Moyen-Orient et pays du Golfe.

Et qui remonte bien plus haut , et bien plus bas. D'un côté, le faste oriental et velouté que conduit un maître de l'oud, de l'autre une pure virtuosité du chaos, résolument déchaînée, entre dégringolade de larsens et ruptures sismiques...

WAMEED : lueur, étincelle, scintillement... Une des plus belles voix de la Palestine. Un univers original né de la rencontre entre une musique orientale traditionnelle (Kamilya Jubran) et l'électro (Werner Hasler).
Wameedd : la rencontre de deux cultures. La voix pure et sans limite de Kamilya Jubran, ses compositions, les mots et phonèmes arabes, les rythmes et par ailleurs les racines et le passé de trompettiste de Werner Hasler, ses propres mélodies et sa façon de conduire la musique électronique est donc l'aboutissement tout en harmonie de leurs recherches. Cette création est le fruit d'une alchimie unique dans un univers harmonieux qui peut devenir une « langue » différente mais à laquelle il sera difficile de donner un nom.

KAMILYA JUBRAN
est née à Aakka, de parents Palestiniens qui habitent aujourd'hui l'Al-Rameh (un village palestinien du nord dans l'Al-Jaleel). Elias Jubran, le père de Kamilya, est un fabricant d'instruments traditionnels et enseigne la musique. Il a été sa première source d'éducation musicale. Dès l'âge de quatre ans, Kamilya commence l'apprentissage et l'interprétation du répertoire arabe classique égyptien. En 1982, elle rejoint Sabreen, le groupe musical Palestinien à Al-Quds-Jérusalem. Pendant vingt ans, Kamilya sera la chanteuse leader de Sabreen, joueuse de qanoon et de divers instruments orientaux. Elle a également participé à la production des quatre albums de Sabreen. Sous l'impulsion de Kamilya, le groupe tournera dans de nombreuses villes palestiniennes mais aussi dans le monde. Toute cette période passée avec Sabreen a représenté pour elle une profonde et dynamique évolution qui a abouti à un nouveau style de la chanson arabe moderne. En 2002, Kamilya quitte Sabreen et se dirige vers un registre musical différent avec Mahattaat, créé et enregistré à Berne. Elle tournera pendant une année avec ce spectacle dans de nombreuses villes européennes et égyptiennes. Aujourd'hui, Kamilya Jubran explore de nouveaux horizons avec sa dernière production, Wameedd.

WERNER HASLER
est né et vit à Berne, a étudié la musique (trompette) à la « Swiss Jazz School of Bern ». Il enregistre et tourne avec des groupes tels que Nits, Tonus, William Bell et Eddy Floyd. En 1997, il fonde son groupe : Manufactur (www.manufactur.ch). Il y développe son propre style et ses recherches en musique électronique. Il enregistre Manufactur #1 (Manufactur Audio/RecRec) et Manufactur#2 (Braincells Records, RecRec). Il joue comme soliste au Pavillon Suisse lors de l'Exposition Universelle à Hanovre en 2000, il exécute une pièce de trompette et de musique électronique avec le ballet de Stadttheather de Berne en 2001 et il tourne en 2002 avec Kamilya Jubran pour le spectacle Mahattaat. Werner Hasler enregistre souvent avec le « dessinateur de sons » japonais Sunao Inami. Il travaille actuellement sur un nouveau disque de Manufactur.

In November 2008, for his european tour L' ENFANCE ROUGE (avant-rock, Tunisia/France/Italy) has invited WAMEED (electro-oriental, Palestine/Switzerland), the project of Kamilya Jubran & Werner Hasler. It's a coherent and iconoclast "plateau" that we propose to your programming.

The goal was not to make sensation in the rock or world churches, but to go further, breaking the walls of the musical parishes. The aim now is to involve the world-music and rock-music audiences as well as the Oriental and North African communities. "... what we need, is that our scientists, our intellectuals, our artists, and as well the common people, are using more profane forms, getting advantage from the extraordinary power of the Arabic culture... Two projects running much further away from the well-formated and fashionable world-music for Occidental people missing exoticism, far from any orientalism/tourism colonist/intellectual.
L'ENFANCE ROUGE and WAMEED are not trapped in their own culture, but are only subjected to it's influence.
L'ENFANCE ROUGE and WAMEED: the possibility of an egalitarian cultural exchange, showing that a music, so-called modern, can really have a strong oriental identity.

L' ENFANCE ROUGE
The Red Childhood. A french - italian band, based in between Berlin and Borj El Khadra. More than 1800 concerts from 1995, from Vilnius to Tbilissi, from Berlin to Sevilla as from Paris to Siracusa. TRAPANI ~ HALQ AL WAADY, recorded in between Tunis (TN) and Lecce (I), is the newest album recorded by L'ENFANCE ROUGE. A certain pan-occidental electricity wildly melted with splendorous oriental grandness. An inventive synergy in-between larsens, feed-backs and these famous arabic quarter-tones. The arrangements are signed by Mohamed Abid, unchallenged 'ud master from the "Orchestre National de la Rachidia", composer and teacher at the "Institut Supérieur de Musique" of Tunis.

If the whole occident is to be closed again on itself, its musicians are getting internationalists. By specifying that on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea there was of course no will to carry out a fashionable and well-formatted world-music, nor oriental tourism or intellectual colonialism.
Trapani-Halq al Waady : a direct and short from-North-to-South line. Trapani is the last European port, Halq al Waady is the first Ifrikian harbour.

From April 2008, the band had toured in France and Europe, in clubs, theaters and international festivals. L' ENFANCE ROUGE will go then much further : in January/February 2009, they will tour North Africa, Middle East and Gulf countries.

WAMEEDD : gleam, spark, twinkling... One of the most beautiful voice from Palestine. A unique universe born from the encounter in-between an oriental traditional music (Kamilya Jubran) and electronics (Werner Hasler).
Wameedd is a dynamic and symbiotic creational process between Kamilya Jubran and Werner Hasler. In the unique opportunity of their meeting, Kamilya and Werner started an experiment with no definition, nor an intended destination. They both have different roots yet their central worlds meet. At every meeting, Kamilya and Werner experiment and go to a different orbit as they get inspired with the questions that mobilize their imagination. Every outcome becomes consistent with strong and new meanings yet at the same time associated with the simplicity of sound . It is an open communication with less cultural preconceptions.

This is a smooth outcome of Kamilya's voice quality and its limitless utility, Arabic words, Arabic phonemic rhythms and Kamilya's compositions. It is also an outcome of the roots of Werner's vocal instrument, his own melodies and his unique lead in electronic music. They both come in on common grounds with a common vision of the world and a shared knowledge of how to communicate with it. The outcome at every meeting is fragile, uncertain, yet at the same time expressive and definitive.

KAMILYA JUBRAN was born in 1963 in Aakka, to Palestinian parents who are from Al-Rameh, a northern Palestinian village in Al-Jaleel. Elias Jubran, Kamilya's father, an authentic instrument maker and a music teacher; was her first source of classical Arabic musical education. In 1982; she joined the Palestinian musical group Sabreen in Al-Quds-Jerusalem . For twenty years, Kamilya was Sabreen's lead singer/ performer, Qanoon and other oriental instruments player, and partner in the production of four albums which Sabreen toured with in Palestinian cities and in many other cities in the world. The period Kamilya lived with Sabreen represents a deep and dynamic process that created a new style of a unique modern Arabic song.

WERNER HASLER was born 1969. He studied music at Swiss Jazz School of Bern. He toured and recorded with bands such as Nits, Tonus, William Bell, and Eddy Floyd. Since 1997, Werner Hasler runs his own band: Manufactur where he develops his own style of audio researched electronic music. Recordings: Manufactur #1 (Manufactured Audio/RecRec) Manufactur #2 (Braincells Records, RecRec). Werner Hasler was a soloist in the Swiss Pavilion of the World Expo 2000 in Hanover, performed electronic live music and trumpet with the Ballet of Stadttheather Bern in 2001; and in 2002 toured with Kamilya Jubran on Mahattaat. Werner Hasler is currently recording with the Japanese sound designer Sunao Inami;, and working on a new recording and repertory of Manufactur.

Jubran is currently involved in researching texts and poems (by Lebanese Paul Shaoul, Jordanian Sawsan Darwaza and Greek Dimitri Analis among others) which describe how "absolute yet paradoxical our lives are today. Where are we going and what is happening to humanity?" She has used these texts in a body of work developed with Werner Hasler, a Swiss musician who composes electronic music. Kamilya sat on a chair on the small platform in the centre of Al Balad Theatre main hall. With her oud hugged tight, played fondly, they performed pieces from her latest album `Wameedd.' ... I watched her, move, slide, flow. I wanted to hold her in my eyes, the magic was overwhelming, if I let go of her, the spell would break... Then she stood in front of us and that is when it all began. It was a trip through self expression. Self expression, so bare and honest, it was almost aggressive... She did sad and happy, sexy and broken, vulgar and noble, pretty and ugly, she refused social grace and let herself free and rode the crude wave of the true... Whenever I am scared of new beginnings, or anxious about unfamiliar grounds, whether in love or friendship, work or geography I think of Kamilya and a number of other women. They, at different stages in their lives, have burned the bridges of comfort and went off towards further living, more intense. They have accepted the losses but celebrated the gains.
