Well I'm going to start by saying that not pumping gas today is not going to do anything for the insane gas prices. I know everybody thinks they are going to "stick it to the man" today but come on. Do you really think that a multi-billion dollar company is going to be hurt by people not buying their product for one day? I think not. Why? Because I'm far too cynical? Possibly? Because I'm Pessimistic? I like to think I'm a realist, so no. Here's why:

A. In order for this little scheme to work pretty much everybody in the U.S. of A is going to have to not pump gas. Truckers will be pumping gas. People who don't give a crap will be pumping gas. People who haven't heard about this little shindig (which I believe is quite a good number) will be pumping gas. Yes more people than usual will not be pumping gas but what does that mean?

B. People are going to swarm in droves to the gas stations on the 16th because they had to go a day without it. People have to have gas so they will go get it, maybe not today, but soon after.

C. Even if these two things were to happen magically how do you think you're going to make a dent in the oil company's profit when they're profiting around $10 billion dollars??? Even if you could go for a week I don't think that's going to hurt them very much, especially when you'll be buying gas at nearly $4.00 a gallon anyways.

So in closing here are my thoughts. Do you really want to get gas prices lower and hurt the oil companys? Then park your gas guzzler in the drive-way, walk your lazy butt over to Wal-Mart and buy a BICYCLE. The only way you're going to make this whole thing work is if you quit consuming the product you're "boycotting." But these things are not going to happen because ladies and gentlemen, we're AMERICANS. We don't know how to stop.
