The Smittens are a five-piece indiepop band from Burlington, Vermont and like to think of themselves as a DIY twee pop explosion. Dana Kaplan, Colin Clary, David Zacharis, Holly Chagnon, and Max Andrucki, with help from the talented Emily Hilliard, switch up instruments, song-writing, and singing to create brilliantly lyrical and hyper-catchy pop songs of all colors, shapes and sizes. Formed on a whim at a party in 2002 by a group of popkids who wanted to make for their friends the kind of music they love, the Smittens have emerged as one of the country's best-loved underground indiepop quintets, with headlining slots in the past year at the New England, New York, Toledo, and Athens Popfests. The band's hotly anticipated third album Pop Your Heart, mixed by Eric Masunaga, will be out in summer, 2007, on Athens,Georgia's indie institution Happy Happy Birthday To Me. The band will be touring the US in the summer and fall of 2007.'
"If the Disney Channel were run by K Records, the Smittens would be the hugest... Their multi-tracked harmonies, sugar-rush guitar melodies, and DIY synth burbles and cute outfits are relentlessly, huggably adorable." - Boston Phoenix
"The Smittens have the power to embody to a tee the style known as 'twee'" - Losing Today
"Imagine a band that shut themselves up in the garage with albums by the Archies and Talking Heads and you sort of get the idea of what these folks sound like." -Knoxville (TN) News-Sentinel
"[Gentlefication Now! is] one of the best home recorded indie pop records of all time. This ranks up there with Beat Happening's Jamboree or Velocity Girl's Copacetic." - Bee's Knees #20
"The closest America has yet come to the transcendent pop/squall mix of Scotland's terrific 'twee' bands like The Pastels." - New Haven (CT) Advocate
"Imagine you're in a room with five people all singing their hearts out, and their voices sound so good together, and their songs are filled with love and hope, and are about infatuation and music and friends and holidays and the weather and treating other people kindly. And their songs sound good, and make you feel good, and in that room you feel like the world is good, and people are good, and things are changing for the better. That's what the little revolution of The Smittens' new album is like." - Erasing Clouds

"We all admire the spangled acrobat with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know." (Vladimir Nabokov) Thank you for your friendship! Musical greetings from Munich/Germany! Feel free to download my music!
