Some people believe that The Scribblers were intentionally designed by a Supreme Being, who carefully manipulated the atoms of the universe to create their smooth musical grooves. Others insist that they evolved over a long period of time; billions of years of evolution crafted their simplistic rhythms, melodic bass lines, and catchy hooks into a seamless ecosystem of indie rock bliss.
In actuality, The Scribblers began when Justin Turner--originally a singer/songwriter from Hot Springs, Arkansas--moved to Chicago, Illinois while searching for a more satisfying musical environment. What he found were four other equally talented singer/songwriters with very similar perspectives on music.
Dusty Monk, singer/songwriter for Chicago band "Root Shoot Leaf," signed on to play bass. Jesse H., formerly the singer/songwriter of Chicago band "The Pedals" (currently playing solo), became the second guitarist and group multi-instrumentalist. Arlin Peebles, singer/songwriter for Chicago bands "Makeway Motorcade" and "Cleanray," joined to play drums.
Their music has pop sensibility, classic country overtones, and the occasional psychedelic explosion. Influences range far and wide--from the playful experimentation of Captain Beefheart, the melodic mindset of The Beatles, and the recent rise of modern indie rock to the cool lazy aura of Randy Newman.
The Scribblers are currently self-producing their first album which is projected to release in December of 2007. Until then, please enjoy the demos posted on this site. Also, check for updated performance schedules in the Chicago area.
