In fact, the idea behind this project started in Winnipeg. On a trip there, Nico got in touch with a beautiful music scene, where he heard great bands like The Paperbacks, The Details, The Mandarins and Great Aunt Ida to name a few. He met John K Samson and he even shared a table at Cousin's with Doug McLean, Jo Snyder and Malcolm Bauld (sorry guys to sound like a fucking groupie)!
When he came back, he thought about it «...and yeah...why not? Why not trying to play something that would maybe sound a bit like what I've heard there?» So he asked Jim to join him on a couple of tracks he had already written before. Since they're making music together for, like, ever, the recording process with only two people playing instruments went kinda fast. After recording a short 4-songs demo for themselves and their friends, Jim and Nico then concentrated more on their current punk band, The Toasters Salers.
The band took another step forward when Nico got The Paperbacks and The Details to play in Rimouski. He thought that those songs would fit well in an all-winnipeggian show, but never he thought about playing them as a duo. These songs need colours to be played properly. So he asked two of the best musicians he ever heard in his life to complete the band. That was it! Nico and Jim, joined by Marcel Desrosiers on drums and Mathieu Duguay on guitars, did the gig...and damn...I think they're addicted now!
Studio recordings?
Some other shows?
A world tour?
Get Prince to open for them?
Yes, future looks bright for The Modern Sins, even if they don't know how to read...
Although, on January 20th, Marcel decided to leave the band...
On February 9th, it's official, Dominic Saint-Pierre is our new drummer. Hail to him!!
