SPIRITS IN AMBIENCE

Momentos
Spirits' shifting paths of synths and beats, ribbons of violin and crisp
guitar are smooth and easy to listen to, making this a pleasant and
enlivening CD to perk up the doldrums. Their brand of ambience may be a bit too smooth and new-agey for some, although composer Mark Peacock isn't afraid of the dark or of the unknown.

Tracks like "Voyage of the Argo" tremble with approaching revelation, and "Bailar con la Luna" coils up and springs; there's also a trove of underworld mythology hiding here. Blended with trip-hop, tribal rhythms, expansive rock, and dashes of flamenco and Eastern flavor, Peacock's versatile guitar guides the way with creative changes. It's good to take it easy once in a while rather than laying it on
too thick.
