Shapes Have Fangs Bio

Shapes Have Fangs started in January of 2006. The band is made up of four members, Dustin Coffey, Evan McGlothlin, Josh Willis, and Skyler McGlothlin. Dustin is the vocalist and rhythm guitar, Evan on drums, Josh on bass, and Skyler on Lead guitar and keys. Dustin and Evan both come from The Fabulous Bread Winners out of Denton , Texas . They recorded funk and soul music using similar tools and techniques used in the 60?s/70?s. Shapes Have Fangs uses the same approach and TEAC reel to reel.

Dustin Coffey handles the design for Shapes Have Fangs, Behemoth, and creative direction for the delicious rag - Art Prostitute Magazine. Evan "the natural" McGlothlin is the beat, the rhythm of the land. He played drums in Fabulous Bread Winners, and has played with Timothy McNealy. McNealy is best known for Sagittarius Black- Recorded in 1972, one of he rarest, sought after singles from the vintage Texas label, Shawn. Skyler McGlothlin has released 2 albums under the name "Nautilis" on Planet-mu records in London. He has played and toured in many places in the world with acts such as Luke Vibert, Prefuse 73, Mum, Jamie Lidell, ect. McGlothlin has also released 2 instrumental hip hop albums on Merck Records out of Miami under the moniker "Malcom Kipe". You can find press features in XLR8R, Grooves, and Gonzo Circus (Netherlands).

Shapes Have Fangs has been incubating for the past 6 months waiting to get in the streets. They practice in the Laguna studio off East Oltorf; sometimes with whiskey, always with no AC, and long hours. The inspiration comes from a lot of places but here are a few that they would like to share, The Zombies, Question Mark & The Mysterians, The Kinks, The Monks, Iggy & The Stooges, Phil Spector (and his wall of sound), XTC, and The Raincoats, Riot Grrrl groups, Northern Soul and Funk, The Troggs, Modern Lovers.

Dustin, Evan, Josh, and Skyler all grew up in Gun Barrel City, Texas. They have known each other for years and have worked on countless musical projects. Through the years they have traveled through genres and experiments to find a brilliant home in Shapes Have Fangs.

Jango.com beta is a new site similar to myspace.com accept you can search and create your own radio station. The selection seems to be pretty decent, I have found rare treasures in their vault. The player is a little bit buggy and often plays songs from artists you did not select for you station. Never the less this is a great free resource for listening to what you want.
