Important Updates Under the Video! Seriously!
Hi. I'm Sarah LeMieux. I'm an independent musician and a mom. The video above is from my recent appearance at the National Women in Blues Festival.
And, I have some UPDATES:
On May 16th, I'll be hitting Arlene's in NYC as part of the Mamapalooza Festival. Come see me and some other rockin' moms if you're in the area.
May 18th, at 7:30 PM, I'll be doing a live set on WPKN's fabulous Antique Blues radio show. Tune your FM dial to 89.5 megahertz. If you still have an FM dial. Otherwise, you can press the little arrow button until you get down to those numbers, or just listen on the internet or something. Sheesh.
So.
Plugs: buy my record, won't you? I made it almost entirely myself. My daughter sings on the bonus track. I'm also the Blues Hall of Fame ambassador to Connecticut.
My very fabulous bio is underneath the videos down there, if you'd like to learn more about me, or if you're having trouble sleeping. The second video is from a benefit gig I did for the Special Olympics this summer. The larger one above that features the excellent violinist Mazz Swift.
Enjoy everything.
(We're both up on the iTunes, too. Throw us some.)
At Sarah's last Georgetown Saloon gig, an audience member pronounced her voice "a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin." After opening for headliner E.G. Kight at North Carolina's National Women in Blues Festival this fall, and being featured on the Women in Blues compilation CD released by JoMar records, Sarah was approached by Japan's BSMF records, and just released her album in the Asian market. Sarah's smoky, silky voice, and unique brand of "storytelling" blues and jazz are getting people hooked all over the world, from Quebecois radio shows to Australian podcasts and everywhere in between.
It's no small wonder her music has such international appeal. When Sarah was a girl, she used to sit on her daddy's lap while he banged out old blues tunes on the piano, and in the other room, her momma would be playing eerie French folk songs or winding Celtic reels on the guitar. The music that grew in Sarah from these strange old seeds sprouted wild and new, blues-driven but with a harmonic twist.
Sarah's influences ride the river, from Robert Johnson, Freddie King and Koko Taylor, on through Jimi Hendrix and Bonnie Raitt, to Bjork, Daniel Lanois and Pierre Bensusan. After college, she added some indie-rock to her mix, lending her vocals to bands like Brother Love, Hapikrak, and Toke Squealy, but she always returned to the blues. After stints in the house band at the legendary C-Note Blues jam and Hank's Saloon and Lillie's blues nights, Sarah toured, stopping back for regular gigs at Lower East Side hotspots Mannahatta and the Anyway Cafe.
Recently Sarah's been playing with her Super Blue Band, a flexible collection of scalding hot players, including Mazz Swift (Jay-Z, DJ Logic), Darian Cunning (Meshell Ndegeocello, Kristin Hoffman), and her brother Brendan. In the past year, they've hit Mamapalooza, the Lilly Awards, and the National Women in Blues Festival, among others.
Sarah is currently in the studio working on a followup to her album Superbleu.
Trading for a song... 6 days ago
So I'm participating in the wonderful, weird and nonlocal power of the internet by trading a song for this beautiful oil painting you see me snuggling below. (The painting is called Lotus, and it's by...
Click here to see my Sonicbids calendar, with a list of all my upcoming shows. For some reason, I can't get the html to work to display it properly on this page. I'm working on it, though.
You kicked some serious a** at the 2nd National Women in Blues Festival! Have I mentioned how incredible the sound turned out on that video you posted on YouTube? Just so cool....loved hearing you live too!

Thanks you! We know, The Pussycat Lounge is a kind of a silly place. We've played there before. We'd love it if you came out to either. And, by the way... these songs up above here are really really really good. Please let us know when you're playing NYC again. keep in touch.

Hey! Lambertville is the only place to be in New Jersey. Pretty nice vibe here. You should play here sometime. I tried adding one of your songs (ba-loo-lah blues) to my profile, but the machine told me I need a user account . Just what I need, another account. I think your stuff is awesome so I guess I'm gonna have to buy a cd.
