From the unassuming town of Abilene, TX, Homer Hiccolm & the Rocketboys brings a focused and mature sound to a sometimes uninspired national music scene. Dubbed ambient rock by their counterparts, the Rocketboys show "a mastery of mood and subtlety ... the six-member group adorns singer Brandon Kinder's soaring melodies with clear, ringing guitars and full-bodied keyboard arrangements, hard-driving drumlines and well-practiced transitions between calm and controlled chaos" (The Austin American-Statesman).
Since forming in January 2005,the Rocketboys have gone on several smaller regional tours, expanding their reach into the Midwest and Southern states. Most recently, the Rocketboys performed at Austin City Limits Festival after they won the Dell Lounge's "Sound and the Jury Contest." They have also played such festivals as Cornerstone Music and Arts Festival, Northgate Music Festival, and the South Padre International Music Festival.
The Rocketboys have released two studio EPs and one live DVD/CD package. South Plains EP was released in summer 2005 and showcases the early days of the band as they were establishing a songwriting niche. Live In Levelland -- which features a documentary of their first tour and a live performance -- was released in summer 2006 and portrays the bridge from their earlier days to their more recent compositions in Sing, Bird, Sing, the most recent EP by the Rocketboys. This new album represents most accurately the band's new music.
After almost three years, Abilene's Homer Hiccolm & the Rocketboys has blasted into the hearts of audiences across Texas and the Midwest.
"With a unique style of soaring guitars and poetic lyrics, the six-member group continues to evolve and mature into a respected indie rock band" (Bryan-College Station Eagle, March 2007).
SOME PRESS
"Between Austin and Denton alone, Texas' place in the fraternal order of indie rock is plenty established and revered. Well, Homer Hiccolm and the Rocketboys aren't from either of those places; they're from Abilene. But their epic dream pop is proof positive that talent isn't exclusive to the aforementioned locales. These are well-crafted and well-played songs for such a young band, and I'm not just talking jive..."
-Columbia Free Times
"... the Rocketboys made a strong showing, with original titles like "Secrets and Numbers," "Old Dahlonega" and "Everything Ascending." A locked-down rhythm section complemented a chiming twin-guitar attack, with harmony vocals, piano and even a tiny xylaphone for texture."
"The band from Abilene stood out in a strong lineup that featured flush-faced power chords, ribcage-shaking kick drums, fist-pumping anthems and much flinging of guitars. The Rocketboys showed a mastery of mood and subtlety. Amplifying a sound made familiar to Texas music fans by bands such as Cue and Explosions in the Sky, the six-member group adorns singer Brandon Kinder's soaring melodies with clear, ringing guitars and full-bodied keyboard arrangements, hard-driving drumlines and well-practiced transitions between calm and controlled chaos."
-The Austin American-Statesman
"Ambient indie band, Homer Hiccolm & the Rocketboys from Abilene, Texas, played a faultless set; they nailed every harmony. The Rocketboys were musically educated ... now they're gaining even more experience on the road, adding that much more to their music. It's a wonder they aren't signed, but maybe they like it that way."
