Running was postponed by 12 hours today due to ice. At 7:10pm I set out in the darkness with my "please don't hit me" vest on. Music player in-hand, I trotted and galluped my 60/90 splits for almost the entire run. At the 5th rep, I started to feel like I was going to puke. BLAAAARRRRGHGHGHGHGGHGH. Run's over.
But I didn't puke. I ran one more rep and stopped and walked home to cool down. I ran pretty hard and I'm sure I'll feel it for days to come.
The saving grace of today's efforts was my new audio player. I bought it with the express purpose of using it to exorcize. AMAZING, and when I say amazing I'm talking about music. It made a world of difference in my run. When I started running last year, I didn't wear headphones because I felt it messed with my rhythm. What I'm learning now is that it held me back. I ran harder and longer listening to music than I would have otherwise. Instead of feeling good after a run, I'm feeling pain. Good pain. Pain I should feel to remind me that I have blood pumping through me that isn't made of teh intarwebz.
I have a good feeling about this stretch of training. I think I'm going to make it.
