Our church recently purchased a Sony HVR-A1U to record the messages but we are also going to use it to create service content like countdowns, sermon intros, etc. We did a humorous video that introduces cd/dvd release of one of the recent sermon series. It was our first video, it wasn't 'great' but we did alright and had an awesome time filming it. I had some trouble with the audio but I think I know what to do next time to avoid that. It's interesting how much I learned after just 1 video.
Any advice for a beginning videographer?

Yes, that look was created in post-production. Really not that hard, I just dropped the saturation to about 25%.
