Japanese 'cosplay' draws huge following in Taiwan Sep 26

Cosplay isn't just for Japan and America anymore. As the popularity of Japanese animation has spread, so has the need to dress up like the characters. Not unlike going as Master Chief for Halloween, Taiwan has now been enjoying the movement for over ten years and starting to become a fashion trend.

"TAIPEI (AFP) - Sporting a blue wig, an eye patch and a white lace gown embellished with a pair of wings, 15-year-old Candice Chen looks ready to hit a costume party.

She is among a growing number of Taiwanese youth who call themselves "cosers" and follow a fashion that aims to combine costume and roleplay based on characterisations in Japanese animation, or "manga".

As the fashion catches on across the island, experts have said that it could help Taiwan's young people break out of the strictures forced on them by the traditional Chinese pressure to conform.

Since "cosplay" first hit Taiwan little over a decade ago, its enthusiasts have been dressing up like their favourite manga characters and gathering at cafes, parks and manga expos across the island." (Full article: Yahoo.com)

Singapore action figure protest against ODEX Sep 10

The recent actions by Singapore anime licensing studio ODEX against fansubbers have brought the most unusual of protests. Four anti-riot vans were dispatched to handle a protest using mostly anime figures (I spy with my little eye a Madman figure amongst the Gundam, Front Mission, Beast Wars, Ultraman, and more... figures). I only hope we can see such protests pop up on the campus of US colleges soon. I'm dying to see DC Comics and Marvel superheroes unite against rising tuition costs.

Yuria Hidaka working on a different Lucky Star AV adaptation Sep 5

After having found out about TMA's upcoming release of a Lucky Star adult video, a second AV title based on the anime has surfaced. Neko Are Blog has discovered postings by Japanese AV star Yuria Hidaka and studio HPSArt that feature scenes from the adaptation she is currently working on. The is show so popular it has two JAV titles in the works. ^_^;;

Dragon Quest Swords pushed out over 300,000 copies in its first week, so it is easy to say it's a popular game. Add a gothic lolita character name Setia and the possibility of in-game upskirt shots... some fans (like Ushijima) were bound to take it to the next step (for a price).
