Album Information

Melodica - Something a little different from traditional piano. I recorded this on the Yamaha Clavinova (CVP405), a digital piano capable of multi-layering tracks. More spontaneous improvisation, but this time, I first recorded myself playing the main chord progression (Track 1), then did an impromptu melody over it (Track 2). The idea of 2 piano layers is a modification of Bill Evans' concept in his CD, Conversation with Myself. God, I love the man!

Saturday Night - Borne out of a Monday afternoon in October 2007 improvising in my studio @ Yamaha. Playing around with several short motifs in my head, thinking of how to develop them, yet at the same time trying not to analyse myself too much. Just kind of followed my emotions for the chord progressions on this one. Inspired by Chick Corea and Bill Evans.

Idea 9 - Out of 14 spontaneously improvised Ideas on a weekday evening in January 2007, Idea #9 stuck. Sorry about the poor quality and environment sounds - I was just messing around and this was recorded using my old laptop placed beneath my baby grand while I played!

Biography

Piano-Girl is about ad hoc inspiration and creativity.

Even though I am classically trained, I dislike being bound to a score or lead sheet, or rehearsing songs beforehand for a performance. Spontaneity is the way to go with me.

As such, my music is different each time - simply an expression of how exactly I felt at any one particular point in time, complete with momentary hesitations, slip-ups and all.

Unless otherwise specified, all my works are original compositions. I work by musical motif - developing an idea I come up with. I am inspired by such jazz greats as Bill Evans and Chick Corea, to name but a few. I do covers only by request.
