Macaroni - We all know what the pasta is, but this is also an affected young ma : fop or dandy. As in "Yankee Doodle went to town riding on a pony. Stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni." This sense appears to have originated with a club establishes in London by a group of young, well-traveled Englishmen in the 1760s. Stakhanov was made a hero by the Soviet government, which swiftly began encouraging workers in all field to become "Stakhavnovites." The top Stakhavnovites were rewarded with medals and higher salaries, upgraded living quarters, and even automobiles.) Also a synonym for workaholic in English.

Vernal Equinox - Far from being an arbitrary indicator of the changing seasons, March 20 (March 21 in some years) is significant for astronomical reasons. On March 20, 2008, at precisely 1:48 A.M. EDT (March 20, 05:48 Universal Time), the Sun will cross directly over the Earth's equator. This moment is known as the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.
