Kenjido Okiru, is a 25 year old, enthusiastic Finland-based DJ. Even though this young lad only started spinning records in early 2003, he has built a reputation for offering the audience more than just good tunes. He creates a special atmosphere and a musical journey, taking the crowd from one emotional state to another. His enthusiasm for music is something that makes him a unique performer.
It all began in the mid 90s, when he realised that electronic music was a part of him. The early inspiration was greated by Prodigy. During those years Okiru obtained various musical obsessions. From the beautiful and melodic vibes of ambient and downtempo to banging, peak-time proghouse. Main influences for producing and DJing comes from the ones like Orkidea, Sasha, Yunus Güvenen, Way Out West, Marc Mitchell and rising stars like Özgür Can, Benz & MD, Fretwell and Derek Howell to mention a few. In the fall of 2002 he decided to start collecting records because his father had given him his old Technics turntable and because there wasn’t virtually anybody in Finland offering the precise sound he was craving for.
While he has gotten a warm reception in the local scene in the form of positive and encouraging feedback, he keeps improving his skills by practicing and listening to a wide variety of music like IDM, breaks, and downtempo, as well as by building the soundscapes of his own material. His mixtapes have been broadcasted in various places such as the Finnish Radio One Ylex, international U4EA FM, and Proton Radio. He has been playing alonside such names like John "00" Fleming, Orkidea, Darude, Özgür Can, Miika Kuisma, Proteus and Mario Piu. This newcomer is also a part of new collective called Subtraxx Agency based in Helsinki, Finland. The crew strengthens every day and members John "00" Fleming, Miika Kuisma, DJ Tab, Super8, Misja Helsloot and others contribute to expand it further. Okiru is also a member of the recently founded Further collective, which is a community of friends, DJs, event photographers and people who enjoy the sounds of progressive house and trance. He also has a residency at Iglu, a new club night. During the time Okiru has performed in major club events taking him to different corners of Finland. Future plans for Okiru include learning the art of producing, evolving as a DJ, touring abroad and mastering his Industrial Management studies in the Tampere University of Technology.
