Back on MySpace

I contacted MySpace customer service and after jumping through a few hoops i managed to get my page back. I had changed e-mail addresses since i signed up and then i couldn't change my address on MySpace. The way they do their security it sends an email to your old address to verify that you want to change it. That makes a lot of sense. If i still had my old address i wouldn't need to change it. So without access to my old address i couldn't make any changes in my profile. Frustrating.

After that i stopped using MySpace. Then once i got this page back up and running, with the new blog, i wanted the MySpace back to fix the linkage and such. So i contacted customer service and it was really quite painless. They were very helpful and fast as well. I was back in editing my page in no time. I got it linking here instead of my old site and added a link to Helium. I checked the stats on Google and my page on MySpace is getting more hits then this one so the linkage will help.

I did notice some changes since i had left MySpace. The spam is aweful. I'm getting a constant stream of friend invites and PMs from scammers with minimal pages. You know the kind that set up a page and spam till they get booted. I even got the same mail three days in a row with the same message but from a different user name. When i went to the pages they were identical just a different name.

If they don't get the spam under control everyone is going to make their profiles private and then there goes the whole social networking aspect. What good is a social network site where everyone has their page blocked. It use to be just porn kings spamming everywhere, now it is every kind of ad, promotion, or scam you can think of.

But i'm back on MySpace for better or worse, at least for the time being. I joined Turbine's LotRO Group and fixed all the old info on my page. Guess i'll just see how it goes. If i'm going to have to make my page private to keep out the spammers then it really isn't worth the effort to me. I have this blog and Helium, i don't really need MySpace.
