Hailing from the likes of England, Belgium and Switzerland, Chapter are as much an amalgamation of sundry musical genres as they are a melting-pot of cultural identities. The band consists of Thierry van Osselt, songwriter and sound engineer, and Alexander Craker, singer and songwriter. Both met on the road through various projects and struck a long-lasting friendship which naturally expressed itself musically. They reflected each other's wide and varied musical culture and, as they played together, the perfect match soon produced results: craftworks of warm acoustic guitars, slow-yet-dynamic beats and gloomy folk melodies began to emerge.
Chapter officially formed after a few musically-fruitful days in 2004 during which Alex and Thierry pooled their talents and influences to compose, arrange and record their debut album, "One (Prologue)", which was released soon thereafter. The album received glowing reviews, delighting audiences with its well-balanced folk, pop and rock undertones.
The two multi-instrumentalists then decided to deliver the material on the road. They varied their performances, playing either just the two of them with a few props, either with the help of the ingenious guitarist Alex Muller (Seaplane Harbor, Equus), or with a full live band including such personalities as Franco Casagrande on guitars and backing vocals (Casagrande) and Christian Pahud on drums (Honey for Petzi, Larytta). Other musicians occasionally partook in the project as well.
In the summer of 2006, Chapter went back to the studio to create their second album. Ten songs were recorded in Geneva, Switzerland, at the tvo_recordings studio in the space of ten days, and a further five songs were added to complete a limited edition. The music is predominantly acoustic, relishing mellow sounds, a genuine warmth and substantial lyrics, while maintaining a homogeneous aesthetic.
On the new record, titled "Two (The Biographer )" (release date: 14th September 2007 (CH), 27th November 2007 (EU)), Chapter seem to have perfected their art, creating a smooth vein of folkrock with tunes that unfold their magic even after scores of listens.
The band looks forward to being on the road from September onwards to introduce their new tunes to you, and Chapter "Three" is already in the making...

A few words on the Chapter creators themselves. Thierry and Alex are linked with various projects, as well as the following bands - for having either played with or recorded them (this is not an exhaustive list): Demilliac, Hell's Kitchen, Honey for Petzi, Houston Swing Engine, Knut, Seaplane Harbor, Shovel, Sinner DC, Tim Patience Watch, Velma...
There is also a team around Chapter, apart from the musicians, which includes a host of hardworking people such as Saiko Records (the record label), Five Roses Press (European promotion and booking), Philippe Weissbrodt (the cover master), Alexandre Thibaudeau (mastering), Jacques Vertsraete (the printer), SO2 (the web designers), Irascible (nation-wide distribution), Julien de Preux (drawings), David Mamie (drawings) and many others.
