Moon Taxi is a rock quintet hailing from Nashville, TN that has been described as a rock group with great vocals, a jam band that head-bangs and a high performance rock act. Take your pick.
Since their formation in 2002, the group has shaped their unique sound to cross many musical boundaries. The group's primary goal has always been to offer something new to the worn out music world. Moon Taxi combines recognizable, radio friendly songs to a dramatic live performance topped with improvisation, head-banging guitar solos, and powerful energy throughout. Their sound is both recognizable and addictive, with the ability to win over any type of crowd. The group attracts people from various musical backgrounds. At any given show one is likely to see girls who love to sing and dance, hippies who love to groove, metal heads who love to rock, and many more. Moon Taxi welcomes all and displeases few.
Moon Taxi has toured extensively throughout the United States in 2007 ranging from the gulf coast to the north east. This group has gained a cult following throughout the southeast and laid the foundation for a following in NYC, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Washington DC, Raleigh-Durham, Chapel Hill, Wilmington and Topsail (NC) as well as Ashville NC. The group has major appeal to the college market and plans to play those areas as much as possible. Moon Taxi also recently won a spot on the Summer Camp 2008 festival in Illinois alongside Moe, George Clinton, Umphrey's McGee and many more.
In February of 2007, Moon Taxi signed with an independent record label in Nashville, TN and released their debut album "Melodica" in April, two months later. Today, there are over 1000 copies of Melodica sold, with a lot of attention to their msypace.com page and several downloads of three recorded live shows on archive.org
Moon Taxi has gained notoriety the old fashioned way. Through grass roots, word of mouth advertising, and continually laying down the law at live shows.
