With a name like Me Llamo Rosa you will wonder what you are getting into as you walk under the marquee of your favorite indie club. "I don't really know where the name came from," says drummer Tyler Briskie. "I think Chance [keys] was working with some lady named Rosa about the time we had the idea to start an alt-country band and it just stuck."
The name did stick, and the six members of Me Llamo Rosa hit the ground running. Garnering attention from major players in Denver's local indie scene, the band receives a consistent flow of show offers and rarely goes two weeks without a show. A remarkable live performance and an equally compelling self-produced EP entitled The Baltic is Dead has generated a successful word-of-mouth campaign for Me Llamo Rosa and a growing fan base across Colorado.
Me Llamo Rosa is not the alt-country band they set out to be (though the Rilo Kiley / Wilco influence is still carried with them). Rather, they pulled more strongly from the lyrical styles of mewithoutYou and Bright Eyes and the musical styles of late 90's bands they adored in their youth, such as The Smashing Pumpkins and Counting Crows. With six musicians coming from six different directions Me Llamo Rosa has proudly forged a sound all their own.
Though their unity is unmistakable on stage and in their song structures, the individuality of each member is what makes Me Llamo Rosa unique. The poet, Jamie Gowdy, pours his soul into his lyrics and enthralls the audience with an intense, passionate delivery. The backbone, John Lansing, provides the foundation on guitar and on stage steps forward to present Me Llamo Rosa's music with pure energy and excitement. The balls, Tyler Briskie, picked up drums instead of guitar when he and his fellow band mates discovered it would be easier to buy a kit than find somebody else. The accent, Chance Scott-Burke, fills out Me Llamo Rosa's music on keyboard in ways a normal guitar, bass and drums band cannot. The catalyst, Dan Sullivan, says what words cannot with either spontaneous guitar solos or elaborate, prescribed melodies. The surprise, James Morrison, rarely sits back and plays what the listener would expect, but instead plays intricate bass lines enticing you to listen a little more closely.
Me Llamo Rosa is what every band wants to be - electric, soulful and talented. They are ready to share their music with whoever is willing to listen and will continue to surprise themselves and their fans as new influences and new inspiration surface.
When you see this new band for the first time, the Bright Eyes comparison is an easy but lazy one to make. These guys may very well appreciate Connor Oberst and his friends, but this is far from a copycat project. Me Llamo Rosa is one of the more interesting groups in this current crop of brand-new acts hitting the scene.

Gagosian Liga says:
"We all admire the spangled acrobat with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know." Thank you for your friendship! Musical greetings from Munich/Germany!
