New Record Announcement!

Maroon 5 will release their much-anticipated sophomore album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long (A&M/Octone Records) worldwide on May 22nd. The follow-up to Songs About Jane is going to be "sexier and stronger," gaining inspiration from 80s icons such as Prince, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads.

Recorded at home in Los Angeles with producers Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Eminem), Mark "Spike" Stent (Bjork, Keane, Gwen Stefani, Marylin Manson), Mark Endert (Madonna, Fiona Apple), and Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Nickel Creek) the album is a louder take on the pop sounds of their first effort. As Adam says, "It's definitely aggressive, upbeat and pounding."

The first single, "Makes Me Wonder," is a hard hitting pop rock anthem which you'll be hearing shortly. Keep checking back for more updates on the new record.

A MESSAGE FROM RYAN TO THE MAROON 5 FAMILY:

Due to the rigors of touring, I have sustained joint and nerve injuries that have made me unable to continue performing as a drummer in a touring rock band. I am therefore leaving Maroon 5 to pursue songwriting and producing on my own, a process I have already begun with much enthusiasm.

The split is amicable, and I have made my peace with this unfortunate reality, because I feel that I have a lot of music still to make. I worked in the creative process and production of the new M5 album with the title Musical Director, and I hope to collaborate with the band again in the future. I am still close friends with the guys, including my replacement, Matt Flynn, to whom I wish good luck and much success.

I would also like to thank all of you who have supported me for many years, and I hope to create music for you in the near future. Its been an incredible twelve years since Adam, Jesse, Mickey and I started this band. Now I begin a new phase in my life, to which I look forward graciously. Thank you, and I love you all.

MAROON 5: MIDNIGHT MILES (MTV/Pocket Books; July 2006)

I remember when Chris McCann got involved with our band back in 2002. We were already friends when he started shooting our live shows, and we knew he was a great artistic photographer from his website (wray-mccann.com) so we asked if he wouldn't mind shooting a photo for the inside booklet of Songs About Jane.
The thing about photographers and photoshoots in general is that if you're not really comfortable with the photographer, then it's difficult to act naturally. Cameras change any situation; it's almost impossible to not be aware of their presence no matter who is behind them, so it really helps if that person is a good friend. And that's why we asked Christopher if he'd like to come on the road with us to document all of the amazing things that happen on tour.
I remember sitting outside the House of Blues in Los Angeles with Chris and talking about how great it would be to make a coffee table book with his photographs of our band, and him telling us what a good idea it would be to keep a notebook of memorable things that people said. The types of things that sum up a moment perfectly but that would definitely be lost if they weren't written down. I remember the truck stop where we bought the first notebook, and I remember the pile of them that we wound up with three years later.
I remember all the pre show huddles with Chris in our midst, and the bus rides and plane flights and hotel rooms, and the brief glimpes I sometimes got of a man dressed in black darting across the back of the stage and thrusting his camera up in the air for a split second just at the moment that Adam would leap off the drum riser to end a song. I remember him wrangling us together the second we got off stage for the post show line up shots that we used for the cover of the acoustic album and for the cover of this book. Chris is all about capturing a moment exactly as it is, and that's what he did for us. He managed to get every aspect of touring life into this book, and he was with us at almost every stage of our long long road.
From the first tour we did in a bus (after a year of touring non-stop in a 15 person van) playing club shows to a few hundred people, to the final sold out arena shows in frot of 15,000 people. From the excitement of seeing new cities all around the world, to the exaustion and delirium that is unavoidable on the road. This is exactly what our lives have been like for the last four years, even if somehow his photographs do wind up making everything look just a little bit cooler. We hope you enjoy it. Love Jesse.
