Just another post about Lipitor side effects -- yes, 13 lb weight gain in the 2 years of taking Lipitor, correlates well with start of Lipitor. Almost the day I started taking Lipitor, I've had an itchy scalp (as had my brother when he started Lipitor), but I've lost NO hair, and I'm a long-hair-scientist type. As to the "I'm tired all the time" & sleep problems, yup, got those too, but I find that once I actually get up and start doing things, I'm not really tired anymore! I've also been taking 3 g/day Niacin for last 9 years, and it still causes flushing, but I'm used to it. No niacin-Lipitor interactions on liver tests either. As another data point, 10 Years ago total cholesterol (TC) = 511, TC/HDL was 16:1 (yikes!) and Triglycerides were 1350!!; after 3g Niacin/day, and stopping 1 qt. 4% milk and 8 oz. of Hershey bars / day, TC = 330, TC/HDL = 6 (which is still horrible) and Trig. = 250. After 20mg Lipitor/day, I had an almost immediate drop to 185 TC and TC/HDL = 3.2, and it's continued to drop; curently hanging around TC = 165. I'd rather be tired than dead of a heart attack. As a final 2 notes, maybe the tiredness is just ageing since I bike 5000 miles/year and at age 47 maybe the old carcass isn't up to it, and my brother (who is almost the twin of me) had to stop Lipitor due to liver damage, even though my liver tests are always fine, so all these side effects seem to be quite person-specific.
