INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTIST LIFE EDUCATION AND WORK
Konstantine Doulgerakis developed an interest in art at a young age, and more for the sacred art of Byzantium. He never received formal instuction in Byzantine iconography, and is essentially self-taught. In his late years Konstantine would like to establish his own Byzantine art studio blending his fine artistic talents with the discipline and humble work of iconography. He incorporates various techniques into his work including egg tempera, fressco, secco, gold gilding and produces his own paints from pigments. He renders complete restoraction of portable icons and wall murals.
He will complete a entire four years, of training by a monk or nun. From the Ministry of Crete or The Holy Mountain, known as Mount Athos, to study the writing of the art and its saint's history. Which he has the opportunity to view while traveling in Greece and Cyprus and through out the holy lands, to help him in learning to use and develop the traditional techniques used to create these uniqe paintings.
His desires to become an Iconographer, is known for this; "Since the latest wars that have tore and wanton destruction of medieval churches and monasteries, during the nineteenth and twentieth century. It has became obvious that iconographic art is endangered nowadays as much as ever." He apprehends one day this sacred art will be burned again and lost with the wars of the years to come. Which he believes this living art should not be surcease, so the true teaching of the lives of the Saints, God's Angels and His Prophets will not be forgotten. He wants their leasons to live on, and to be taught for our next generation of Christian youths.
In addition, Konstantine has a interest in learning the language of Aramaic. He has been self-teaching this puissant language, for the knowledge of understanding the divine words of Yeshua, so that he can translate this the native language spoken between the Galileans in both Greek, as well as in Hebrew for a better Theological connection.
In for the Music he has a passion in playing the instruments of the ancient world of the Mediterranean's Gods and Goddess and of the Byzantine world. which are two fine parts played together, the Cretan lira, and the ambient oudd. Practicing and discovering their deepest secrets, since the age of fiveteen. Konstantine the Cretan, has a philanthropy of "Keeping the Tradition Alive."

"Having chosen the most appropriate wood, I coat it with cotton fabric dipped in Lukewarm rabbit skin glue, and then I apply several coats of the so-called foundation or Gesso. When the surface is dry, I sand it with very fine sandpapper to obtain a smoth surface. After that, I make a skech of the Saint or scene I am going to paint and I gid it with 22-karat gold leaf which I simply stick to the "mixion" (gold glue). Another traditiona, gilding technique that I use, and is known to very few other in Greece, is the so-called "burnished gold", or water gilding technique." Iconographer: Sotirios Panailidis
Iconographers translate revealed scripture and divine truths into visual images. It is said an Iconographer writes and icon and does not paint one. since each icon tells a story, the viewer gets a chance to read and learn from it.... Ideally the Iconographer should be a pious individual. They should be trained by Holy Fathers, like monks or nuns, but that is not essential to being and iconographer. Most Iconographer live outside monastreies commercialized in a way. Iconographers should, during their work, pray, fast, and avoid worldly excitement.
"Lord Jesus Christ our God, uncircumscribed in your divine nature, having become inexpressibly incarnate for the salvation of man ultimately by the Virgin Mother of God, Mary, has become worthy of circumscription. Who, having imprinted the sacred features of thy immaculate face on the holy veil, and through healing the illness of the governor Abgar and bringing about the enlightenment of his soul into the full knowledge of our true God and who, through thy holy spirit brought wisdom to the holy apostle and evangelist Luke to depict the form of thy most innocent mother, who carried thee in her arms as a child and said ''May the grace of Him who was born of me, through me be imparted to them'', the same, o God and master of all things, enlighten and bring wisdom to the soul and heart and mind of thy servant {name;"Konstantine"} and direct these hands for the irreproachable and excellent depiction of the form of thy person and of thy immaculate mother and of all thy saints, to the glory and to the splendour and beautification of thy holy church, and the remission of the sins of those worshiping in regard to the church and devoutly kissing and so referring honour to the prototype, redeem him from all harm inflicted by the devil, as he diligently follows all the commands of the ministers of thy immaculate mother, of the holy and illustrious apostle and evangelist, Luke, and of all the saints. Amen".
Literature describing the lives of the saints. Christian hagiography includes stories of saintly monks, bishops, princes, and virgins, with accounts of their martyrdom and of the miracles connected with their relics, tombs, icons, or statues. Written as early as the 2nd century and popular during the Middle Ages, hagiographies focus on lives of individual saints or on stories of a class of saints (e.g., martyrs).
"Marvel at the stunning beauty of Icons from Mount Athos, and relive the days when Orthodoxy and Byzantium ruled the world."

Sorta. I'm Orthodox in my beliefs about Christianity, but not necessarily a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. I'm a reformed presbyterian by denomination, but in most things the two seem to be in agreement. I've had some great talks with the family, and they are teaching me more about the Orthodox Church and it's tenets.

I should know." (Vladimir Nabokov) Thank you for your friendship! Musical greetings from Munich/Germany! Feel free to download my music!
