J:KENZO BIO
'Halfstep riddims and 2-step jamz fused with heavy laden sub bass'
Born in 1980 and raised in Kent, South East England. Jay's love for music started by growing up listening to his father's record collection of soul, reggae and rare groove and as a kid picking up love for Hip Hop & House in the late eighties. In his early teens he was introduced to the rave scene which opened his eyes to the world of the dj. Collecting tape packs and listening to the likes of The Prodigy, Dj Slipmatt, Dj Hype, Dj Randall, Dr S Gachet etc, Jay was instantly addicted to the scene. He began buying records from the age of 14, picking up early jungle classics such as Levitcus - The Burial and Krome & Time's Ganja Man. In 1995 Jay purchased his first pair of soundlab belt driven turntables and was donated an old Gemini mixer. He was hooked, and within days he'd picked up the art of mixing, spending every bit of spare time practising and making mixtapes for friends. He started getting gigs at youth events and local parties, playing Drum & Bass, 2 step UK Garage and Hip Hop.
In 2001 and as the music changed for both UKG and Drum & Bass and become more MC led, Jay decided to take a few years out of the music scene, but still couldn't drop his love for buying and playing music. Between 2003 - 2005 he got a few resident gigs playing hip hop, reggae and breakstep (and early dubstep) at a few clubs in Kent.
In 2006 Jay decided it was time to get in the studio and start putting his ideas to his own music, and started making Dubstep.
Reaching the DMZ dances and catching the vibes reminiscent to the early jungle days, the heavyweight bassline and the fact that THERE IS NO BOUNDRIES has rebirthed his passion within underground music.
Jay is currently focused on production, on a solo tip and also with fellow dubsteppa Markomen (under the alias of marKenzo), plus the promotion and management of his two record labels 'Dub Constructionz' and 'Soul Shakerz' which are both about to drop there first releases...
