We've finally launched the new web-site for my friend, musician Andy Borghesani. This site has been in the works for almost a year now, as I started the initial design concepts last summer and the coding early Fall 2007. Needless to say, I'm very excited to see this one go live.
The site's main focus is to promote Andy's work as a composer, so the primary focus is the Works page, which serves as the ultimate resource to find, listen, and learn about Andy's music. His most recent compositions are all featured in their own "box" with links to MP3s and PDFs of the sheet music. Andy also wrote short descriptions for each song. This is my favorite section of the site for a few reasons. Firstly, I feel we were able to organize a large amount of information in an easily accessible and aesthetically pleasing way, and secondly, I really tried to pay attention to details here, and there are alot of small design elements I'm proud to have included.
Some of the small details include such things as each album cover is reflected underneath (a slight nod to Apple) as well as the subtle gradient in each box from dark to light gray which is reminiscent of the gradient background featured on every page of the site, and then ties in with the image reflections.
The home page design should also be noted. At the last minute, Andy requested a news/updates sections where he could post updates on his work as well as list events where his songs will be played. To quickly incorporate this new feature, I added a semi-transparent box over the homepage image which prominently displays the latest news without taking away from the overall simple design yet still adding a new dimension of excitement.
Like I said, I'm really excited to see this site live and I can honestly say it's one of my favorite web-site I've ever worked on. I feel I learned a lot more CSS while working on this project and ran into a lot of obstacles but was able to figure them out while sticking to a strict CSS code. Be sure to take a look around and listen to some music.
