Joe Ward of Portland, Oregon is Jammotron aka DJ Kut Jam, a mesmerist. OK, actually, hes a musician, but once youve sampled his delights in the audio realm, youll understand why hes a mesmerist. He cranks out uber-distinctive sounds that fall under the experimental umbrella and are strange but strangely accessible. Fans are easily won.

The Sound

Jammotrons strange brew is a compelling blend of electro, house and downtempo performed with experimentalism and utilizing unexpected musical elements and sampling. The music is mysterious, tenebrous yet also friendly the way a cute (but not too cute) alien might be when greeted by a friendly astronaut. Its out there, man, but its right inside to. Jammotrons music has no trouble ploughing right through your skull and into your mind. Pure hypnosis in musical form.

Relaxation

Because Jammotron makes music for his own enjoyment, it has already passed the ultimate test. Hes no hack, turning out junk to sucker in CD-buyers. If he doesnt like it, it doesnt go under the Jammotron name. I love making music just to relax myself; its the only thing that keeps me in control. Be it dancing or kicking back and feeling cool, Jammotrons goal is to make music that kicks up a groove one way or another, either in your body or in your mind or, more likely, both.

Full Appeal

As much as Jammotron is trying to please himself with his music, he also wants to make happy listeners out there in the electronic music world and beyond. I do my best to put the full appeal on all my tracks, scientifically, emotionally and experimentally, for your listening pleasure, says Jammotron. The greatest thing about it is that hes been pleasing himself and others for over two decades and doing it his way. Ive been doing my own thing for over 20 years and representing my own label, called Starlite Entertainment.

Jammotron loves music. He cant stay away from it. So he keeps making it. And keeps making it. And keeps making it. He just cant stop and the world benefits. Influences

Jammotrons influences come from a wider array of styles than you might suspect. Though he sounds like none of his influences, he finds a catalyst in his creative spark in the likes of James Brown, George Clinton, Earth Wind & Fire, Kraftwerk, Egyptian Lover, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Larry Heard, Marshall Jefferson and more. These are mentioned only to give an idea of the broad array, the musical intelligence of Jammotron. His music is his own; it sounds like no other. And it must be heard.
