GalacticMu Feb 19
Hi kiddies. Me and my spacebuddy Sunday Williams have a new nerdy blog baby named GalacticMu.
Swing by and check out the robotic goodness.
Been to Providence, RI? Sep 12
We're thinking about moving to Providence RI at some point and I was wondering if any of you could give me some insight into the place. I've done a lot of research and it looks pretty perfect (well, NYC is perfect but 3.5 hours away will do for now). Any info would be appreciated.
Ron Mueck Aug 4
I just found out that the absolutely brilliant Ron Mueck is at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth through October 21st. We're going on a road trip up to Ohio soon and we're going to detour through Ft. Worth for this. I'm so excited to finally see this in person!

Ron Vander Ende Jul 28
I absolutely love Ron Vander Ende's work. He does basrelief paintings on reclaimed timber that remind me of Syd Mead and the old school futurists. Really gorgeous work that I'd love to own.

What I learned over summer vacation: Jun 27
1. Never go 5 years without seeing people you love as much as I love Sunday & Mike. If Sunday ever offers to make anything food related for you, do not say no.
2. a) never fly Delta, b) never check luggage on a connecting flight- we finally got our stuff one day before we came home, c) never give up when some sour airline agent tells you you're just gonna be stuck indefinitely in a Detroit layover and there's not shit he can do about it (thank you helpful little new guy we finally got at Delta... even if you did make us taxi from Kennedy to La Guardia to catch an equally delayed flight), and finally
d) never ever ever fly Delta (worth repeating a bazillion times).
3. Never check your email when you're really having an excellent time on vacation. The bill monster will in fact eat your happiness for breakfast. Watch out for the work boogey as well.
4. Visit the Midwest- it contains the most genuinely nice people you'll ever be confused by. Oh, and its pretty.
5. Never underestimate the power of Atton- he's a little powerhouse of sweetness and talent that has the ability to turn any dire situation he might find himself in into a ridiculous opportunity (I'll be visiting that upstate farmhouse as soon as you're settled honey). And entertain you to pieces in the process.
6. Eat at Panna ll, a super cute Indian restaurant in East Village (93 1st ave). There's barely enough headroom to seat you due to the millions of christmas lights that serve as the only lighting in the place (not to mention hanging godzillas)- but if you're not claustrophobic you'll get the cheapest tasty Malai Kofta you've ever had.
7. Don't visit NYC unless you want to move there- it'll break your heart to come home (yep, that's my broke ass ticker you see there- anybody wanna pass on a Manhattan/Brooklyn/Astoria 1 bedroom? ok, how about a design jobby job in the city for a nice girl? hmmm?)
8. If you go on vacation from a place you'd rather not come back to, try to have 2 beautiful doggies waiting for you when you get home, it takes the edge off.
A little.
Opera woes Jun 7
I got the long awaited DS Browser, which uses Opera, yesterday... only to find that my profile is totally frelled up in Opera. I've never used Opera before (believe it or not) so I downloaded it and was pleasantly surprised to find that it allows you to edit the source of any page to trouble shoot- which would be great if I felt like troubleshooting yet another browser. The really annoying thing is that if I fix it for Opera its messed up in FF and IE, if I fix it for FF its ok in IE, and a wreck in Opera.
meh.
***UPDATE***
Well I fixed it. No, it wasn't a misplaced line of code or an unclosed tag. It was... completely nonsensical. I took my thinking cap OFF and did the opposite of logical and now it worky. Hurray! How typical.
Found baby Jun 4
This Saturday I was sitting outside and saw a big possum creeping by me trying to get her baby to stay on her back. It kept falling off and last time it did she ran off and left it wailing in the parking lot. There are so many cats around here we decided to put the baby under the house where I thought the mother lived.
This morning I found it back in the middle of the lot wet and crying. This time I put it in a shoe box with a heated pack and tried to give it a little water and applesauce. We took it to the Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition a few hours later. They said he looked anemic and like he wasn't doing so hot...
This may sound dorky but I'd really appreciate it if you all would aim some get well thoughts at this little thing:

boohoo.
Is lab grown pork treif? Talk amongst yourselves. Jun 3
Interesting... but pretty icky. I know plenty of people who won't even eat soy based meat substitutes, I can't imagine them downing meat grown in a petri dish. But, as the article touches on, it could help with world hunger and environmental issues.
Reminds me of Eric Drexler's nanotech meat box idea- at least in the sense that its the engineering of meat without the animal.
On that note, I used to always wonder if some kind up cult would spring up around the last cow slaughtered- the one that provided the molecular basis for every reproduction afterwards. She'd be the cow that sacrificed so that no other cows would have to die. A sacred cow, if you will. (ha ha, at least I entertain myself).
Oh Fred. May 30

Add Koko, the kitten mourning ape into the mix and Oy, enough already!
Speaking of apes: this happy news.
The Joker May 20
I wasn't all that excited when I heard I-cain't-quit-you Heath Ledger was going to be the Joker in the Dark Knight, then I saw this.
Just start typing in the space for your email- it will reveal the image. Neat.

Airlock Houston May 20
Ug, Houston bores me to tears. Looking forward to the June trip to NYC, and then on to OH to seriously dork out with my spacebuddy at MidWestCon. Anybody else going? The last one I went to was the StarTrek Con in Seattle, where me and Sunday hit on young Icheb, and almost wept watching James Doohan try to get through a panel, poor thing. How odd to think about him hurling towards NM.
Anyway, if you happen to go I'll see you there- look for the girls in the matching jumpsuits snorting gleefully... being trailed by two respectable and embarrassed looking men.
Where's my Jetpack? May 12
When I was a kid I honestly thought I'd be dailing up my wheaties and trying to decide if I wanted to live offworld by now (ELO's Time, anyone?). I'd have even taken living in the City of Domes... Instead I got some broadband and iPod. You too? Commiserate away with Daniel H. Wilson's Where's My Jetpack. (via)
