Heidevolk is a folk metal band from the Dutch province of Gelderland. The music of Heidevolk can best be described as pounding and blistering metal combined with epic and melodic folk music. The band features two clean vocalists and incorporates folk instruments such as mouth harp, violin and blowing horns in its songs. All songs are in their native tongue. Heidevolk was founded in 2002 by six young men from the province of Gelderland, all of whom were inspired by nature, Germanic mythology, folklore and the history of Gelderland. They had a common desire to create music that could capture their fascination for these subjects. The name 'Heidevolk' ('people of the heath land') was conjured up during one of their walks through the Veluwe. Heidevolk started to play live in 2003. Since then the band has played over 100 gigs in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg, Swiss, Italy and Hungary. Swords, shields and medieval attire create a medieval atmosphere on stage, and over the years the band has established a name for itself as being a very energetic and entertaining live act. Heidevolk embarked on their first European tour in 2006, supporting Norway's Kampfar on the final leg of their Ravnferd tour. In 2007, the band toured Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland together with Germany's Gernotshagen. Heidevolk has played on several festivals, including No Mercy (NL), Kings of Metal (NL), Arnhem Metal Meeting (NL) and Ragnarok 4 (DE). Notable bands Heidevolk has opened for include In Extremo and legendary Dutch rockers Normaal. In 2004, Heidevolk released the MCD "Het Gelders volkslied", soon followed by the self-financed debut "De strijdlust is geboren". In 2007 the "Wodan heerst" Digi-MCD was released as a prelude to their upcoming second full-length. On the new album Heidevolk's music has evolved both technically and melodically with more diverse vocals and guitar parts, while deepening the folk element. Heidevolk is currently unsigned and looking for a suitable partner for the release of their CD.
