Anyone interested in sharing tips and ideas for getting the word out on an ecommerce site?
I'm working on an ecommerce site for company that sells contemporary gifts with an asian flair...hi-end photo albums, notebooks, and purses and that kind of stuff. Anyone have any clever ideas on spreading the word. The client has no user base yet. Do you know of any good shopping blogs or ways to get the word out online? I've researched several shopping blog link sites that I hope to get posted on. I've got several ideas worked up for how to spread the word once the site starts selling, but I need a quick way to find the target audience and generate some user traffic. Age-old issue, right? What are your clever thoughts?

The best option I've found isn't free....paid search advertising gets a lot of good, qualified leads. It's worth a shot if they have the funds to backup their venture.

I work at a marketing agency in Chicago as an art director. I have a strong marketing mind and a thirst for effective communication, visual or otherwise. On the side, I help small businesses build their identity and presence and have been experimenting with using video on the web to help clients reach their constituents.

Hi. I am a partner in a new media marketing firm. All our marketing efforts are designed to be web-cenrtic. I have a background is in video production - thats mostly what I am in charge of. It sounds like James does a lot of the same things we do.

STARBUCKS EXPERIENCE was good. I need to skim it again for the main points.
I really enjoyed ZAG by Marty Neumeier (how to build brands that are truly different and distinctive) and POP! - STAND OUT IN ANY CROWD (great naming ideas).
Right now I'm reading BLUE OCEAN STRATEGY (how to create new markets by adding new [read: non-industry standard] value for customers) and LOVE IS THE KILLER APP (the new world is run via intangibles - Knowledge, Networks and Compassion).
I'm a knowledge sponge.

I just finished Raving Fans based on Kyle's recommendation. I liked ita lot. I also read One Minute Manager by the same author afterwards andthought it had some great management techniques that I hope to put intopractice. Next in the queu is Good to Great and the Art of the Start.

Hello Gents, Blue Ocean Strategy is a good one. I recommend it. I've got a guilty pleasure read for you all. "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. It's not a marketing book per se, but it's phenomenal quick read with great insights into how (and why) we work. So many great nuggets it's worth reading. Trust me.
