Ok guys, I know you all love to get your hate on, but seriously, is it REALLY that bad sharing the internet with people that don't have tastes like yours? I mean I can be pretty snobby sometimes too, but like the internet is a free realm! It's democratic! The rights that we fight for can't just be arbitrarily held back in certain sectors, they must be employed everywhere!! It is a person's right to make an ugly Virb page, and even though we all hate status-quo "bad taste" infiltrating our elite circle, we have to accept the fact that this IS public. If you really want to keep it free, you should consider making your own invite only community. Case in point: i'm a member at werknet. None of ya'll can see what goes in there ;)

Steve says:
I personally don't worry about them..
The one thing about VIRB is..you can befriend people you want, you can have groups invite only, etc... so if you don't like someone/someones profile, you don't have to look at it. So if you are getting like spam announcements and such, you might have friends that you shouldn't have. But virb even gives you the option of not seeing certain peoples announcements. I don't see it being a problem.
What I do see a problem is what happened to myspace..were you just have a bunch of porn ads in profiles. I'm hoping that is where that report profile button will come into play! But really, that would be up to the community to keep on top of reporting spam profiles.
posted Mar 9
Marco says:
I think virb won't really appeal to those who are into 'ghetto style' profile design. I'm quite sure the clean look of virb.com itself will sort of do that.
The fact that virb doesn't allow people to post all kinds of horrible images in comments will help too. The 'ghetto design lovers' will think that's boring ;)
I do agree with Steve that the porn ads should stay where they are. And I'd like to add spammers, friend whores and shitty bands that annoy the entire userbase with their stuff to the list.

i like brian burns' idea...with that we could overrule the noobs and get rid of them only leaving the beta testers

So since us beta-testers are all into this whole elitism thing right now with all the myspacers on their way over, should we make another group for people that received invites from the virb architects and those that received invites from other beta testers. Let's bring on the upper echelon of virb elitism! Who's with me?!

Other than asking people he didn't know to be his friend, what did he do wrong? I got an invite from him, but I never got any spam or anything.
I've been reaching out to people I'm in groups with, particularly in my PHP coders group. What's wrong with wanting to get to know people you don't already know?
posted Mar 13
Marco says:
I kinda agree with Nova. Friend whoring can be a tad annoying at times but a group dedicated to just the fact that you denied a certain users friend request seems a bit rude to me. I thought virb.com had only nice and friendly users? ;)

He just happens to be the first (i think). I am sure there will be more to come .. which will be posted on denied dave. I personally do not want any friend that is going on a virb rampage trying to add as many people as possible ...

Nova I agree, and I would have posted a comment introducing myself, but for some reason I can not add comments anywhere at the moment only reply to them, odd, but anyway, I got an ivite from this guy too, but no spam so I said as long as your not going to advertise, sure why not, if people become a pain, I just get rid of them, but if he is that young, I mean he is a kid, but what is the excuse for the reaction, which is even more childish, and from reading some of the comments in this group, it seems Elite was a good name for this group, I find the arrogance in here a bit rude.
If a more classy atmosphere is what people are looking for, a classy look does not give one class, you need the attitude to go with it, and I am not seeing that here. There is a difference between having class and being a snob.

per marco, below, regarding a certain type of users, and that they should stay where they are:
"And I'd like to add spammers, friend whores and shitty bands that annoy the entire userbase with their stuff to the list."
dixies attic, I think you may have misunderstood the comments, per merdeath, above: "It is not directed towards 'dave' the 14yr old from kentucky. It is directed towards the notion of people just adding you just for the sake of having many many friends."
"If a more classy atmosphere is what people are looking for, a classy look does not give one class, you need the attitude to go with it, and I am not seeing that here"

This is seriously getting retarded. No one is attacking some defenseless kid, so everyone can get off their high horses. Making a group to discuss the annoying users of social networks is about as offensive as a group dedicated to coffee. Can we please drop and it move on?
One more thing. Hey Dixies, don't worry about not introducing yourself. I got enough about your character from the comments you made. There actually is a difference between having class and being a snob, thanks for the example.

All this and no one answered my question... lol. I was being more literal than you gave me credit for. I seriously meant "what did he do wrong?" It appears his page got banned, but since I doubt asking people to be your friend is against Virb policy, I was wondering what else he must have done to incur the wrath of the Virbbies.
Its a shame this has deteriorated into name-calling, especially against someone who never meant any malice or harm at all. I had higher hopes for this group.
