I sold off my last dSLR to a friend because they needed it more than i did. Ive now gone over two months without one and its driving me crazy. Every day i find something that makes me want to reach for my camera and my P&S just doesnt get the job done.
My plan WAS to get a D80, 18-200mm VR, 50mm f/1.8D, and a SB-800. Of course, that was Before i let my powerbook get stolen and had to replace it with a $3,500 MBP.
Now im afraid all il have the money for is a D40 and the 18-200mm VR and possibly the 50mm f/1.8D (even tho it wont auto focus on a D40.)
How crazy would i be to not wait until i can afford a D80?

don't get that 18-200. its not really a good lens (superzooms rarely are). i'd check out something more like the tamron 28-75 2.8. i have one and it's awesome. amazingly sharp. you'll be MUCH happier. it may not be as wide or as long as the 18-200, but it will produce far superior images for about half the price.

Jaime, how are you and that D40 getting along?
Dustin, how right you are... I'm getting impatient for the new MacBook Pro. If I plop down $2700 for one, they'll lower the price $400 and add a bunch of great features the following week!

i've got a quick question maybe you people can help me out with.. i just bought an sb-600 speedlight and so far I really love it but i'm wondering what the difference between it and the sb-800 is.. and if it's worth exchanging.. any feedback would be much appreciated!

the 800 is a bit more powerful, and can act as a controller for the creative lighting system. that's the most important difference. oh. and you can attach an extra battery to the 800, making it recycle a bit faster. Unless you really need any of those features, the sb600 should serve you well!

Ditto hayo, except I'll add that depending on the camera you are using it is possible you have a built in controller which wouldn't make that an advantage. It is my understanding D70 and up have the commander capability. I have and SB-600 and love it, great speedlight.

lately i've been taking photos for bands and clubs(almost always very dim lighting) which is basically why i bought the sb-600.. i read up on the creative lighting system and i don't think i'll be doing any shoots that crazy in the near future so i'm guessing the sb-600 will do just fine! thanks for the feedback guys.. once again, much appreciated.

Wish list: 85mm f/1.8, SB600, 50mm f/1.8. I'd also like a faster zoom lens, maybe the Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8?
