TWIS

"[Science is] the labor and handicraft of the mind." - Francis Bacon (1561-1626)

It was the turn of the new millennium. The twentieth century was coming to a close and mankind eagerly awaited his future. Expectations were high. Predictions of disaster, of salvation, of ascension abounded. The media built a panicked fervor over "Y2K" prognostications. Warnings of the coming end of the computer age were common causing many to fear a return to the dark ages of the 1950's.
And on the morning of the first day of the twenty first century, when Starbucks opened on time and death did not fall from the sky, when the sun rose above the horizon and the ATM still worked, Man breathed easy and continued his march toward his ultimate destiny. So mundane was the birth of the millennium that few noticed the beginning of a humble talk show on the UC Davis campus.
This Week in Science (TWIS) reports weekly on the ever expanding boundaries of human understanding. The dynamic synergy between Dr. Kirsten Sanford and Justin Jackson creates an infectious enthusiasm for knowledge and understanding. Whether debating the end of the world or discussing robot domination, Justin's irreverence and Kirsten's keen wit prove with each segment that science is creative and not the stoic unsocial animal it is so often portrayed as.
This group is for anyone who would like to show their support for TWIS and enthusiasm for science.
