Documentary Filmmakers/Fans

all things documentary

This group is for documentary filmmakers and fans of the genre. Feel free to post all things related to documentary filmmaking including film reviews, personal anecdotes/experience with filmmaking, promote your work, ask questions/advice, etc. Also, we define documentary very broadly and hope to include all reality-based filmmaking including experimental work.

Hi,

I'm preparing a documentary series project, and it includes travelling to various countries. Would you have any suggestions / advice as far as logistics are concerned?

Thanks

I started this group a while back and rarely get on Virb anymore, but I'm glad to see others have joined. I've vowed to spend more time on Virb.

I just cut a new trailer for my documentary you can watch here (5 minutes):http://www.virb.com/spokefilms/videos/20821

Or for those with shorter attention spans, you can watch the 2.5 minute trailer (but it's not as good...)http://www.virb.com/spokefilms/videos/20758

I'm a filmmaker and of course a fan; the photography of James Nachtwey as well as Errol Morris have been some of the big factors in my artistic development, which is just getting under way. I've done a few short docs, but would love to get in on a feature creatively in the next few years.

Mr. Appropriate says:

I guess i would fit into more of the "fan" side of things. My favorite film makers are Errol Morris and Nick Broomfeild. I beleive that both ahve changed the documentary landscape in thier own way. Errol Morris has really shown brilliantly for many years and is the best at his craft in my humble opinion.

btw, speaking of, i have a group devoted to Errol Morris if youd like to come talk about his work.
