It gets better. I got the internship. I'm on the communications/new media staff, and (I shouldn't be getting my hopes up over this but of course I am) there's a chance I could be travelling around the state this week with the Senator to all his various stops, ending with the debate this weekend at Drake University.
Uh, I'm kinda stoked.

Wow...I'm a bit late seeing your reply to my comment. Congratulations!!! Talk about a dream job. He's definitely got my vote...we've just got to make sure he gets the nomination.

There needs to be an easier way to have a discussion on this site.
That said, I just moved to Des Moines, IA. I've already met two presidential candidates and have an internship interview for the Obama campaign tomorrow.
Hella excited.

So I'm not called a "Do As I Say Not As I Do" LIEberal:
Why I'm a Democrat.
-I'm totally against the death penalty.
-I support public education, including making state college tuition completely tax deductible. Pay teachers more, but grade them in a much more strict manner.
-The use of the United States military should be the last resort. Only when we face a real, clear, and present threat should our soldiers and marines be put in harms way. Forget this "Peace through Strength" BS that some people are still touting. Chest thumping will get you nowhere.
-Taxes are a necessary evil. They pay for our roads, our parks, our military, our legal system. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (my home) is called that for a reason. We share the common wealth for the common good. Given that, I think taxes shouls be lowered for those who need the money the most. Small businesses, and the lower/middle classes.
-Here we go. Abortion. I'd never ask anyone to do it. I hate the thought of it. So how do we get the rate down? Not by making it illegal, by giving women the opportunity to raise it . The number one reason women go through with it is because they can't afford to keep the child. Universal single payer health care is the answer to this and sooo many other problems. If everyone has access to affordable health care, the more money they have to raise children. I'd go deeper, but there's a 2000 character limit to these posts.
-Democrats and liberals in general have a much more authoritative governing style as opposed to an authoritarian style. There is a recognition and respect of the power they hold, but also a recognition that if the public's will is not done, and the public's trust is not held, then all they can hope for is that the door doesn't hit them on the way out.
I'm not saying all Democrats are saints. Lord knows we constantly screw up. Constantly.
Feel free to call me out on anything you feel is crap.

Greetings fellow Democrats! Join us!
When you do join, scroll down here and post a comment. Tell us all why you're a Democrat, why you're thinking about joining the party, or why you aren't a Democrat and how we all hate Freedom.
Then tell your friends to join us. The more the merrier.
Lastly, use the links at the top of the page to get involved. Let me know if there's a particular site that should be added and I will promptly do so.
November 2006 went as well as it did because we got active, so let's do the same thing this time around. Our resources, both online and offline keep growing, so join up, and help advance the Democratic Party's agenda of re-growing America's middle class, securing our country from terrorist attack, stopping the global climate crisis, and showing not just tolerance for others, but acceptance of and respect for their differences. These are our values. These are true American values.
Let's show the country again that hope and opportunity can trump fear and exclusion.
Thank you.

We seriously have brought out the All-Star Team this time around.
Clinton: I won't kill myself if she's nominated, she's done great work on bringing us closer to USPHC, and fought to keep VA hospitals like the one in my home town open. That said, I think she is a far too devisive figure to be President. We need someone who doesn't make half the country go all
.
Obama: Right now I'm behind him. I think his youth, personality, and message are exactly what the country needs. I do, however want to start hearing some specifics out of him. I know it's on the website. But a lot of the people going to these rallies (and there are a ton,) are going to start hearing the same stump speech over and over, and start saying, "Ok, hope is great and all, but I and my neighbors can't make rent and pay the heat bill at the same time. I need some help."
Edwards: His campaign is getting the most specific. Hopefully his numbers go up because of it. I'd really like to see him on the ticket in some form next year. He's charismatic, and has a strong personal story of lifting himself up through hard work that no Republican candidate could deny.
Richardson: This guy has all the experience, but from what I've heard, (I haven't seen any speeches) he's kinda wooden. If he got the VP slot, he could totally help Obama with all the "not enough experience" talking point.
I'd go into the others but it's 55 degrees outside and I need to be there. My new laptop can't come soon enough.

oh man...i'm so on the same page as you are. i worked on the kerry/edwards campaign here in tennessee, so i'm already partial to edwards. i think obama has the ability to bring liberals/conservatives together like no other candidate we've seen in recent years. i agree about the specifics. unfortunately there are so many people out there that won't take the time to go to his website and after hearing the same stump speech every time it will start to sound like "wah, wah, wah." i'm excited about the months to come...can ya tell?
