Being the LOTR freak that I am, I feel destined to join this group.
I'm also real into the whole Silmarillion thing, I love studying the history of Middle Earth.
Check out my virb music account... one of my songs is called "Numenorean Outcry" and was inspired by the works of JRR Tolkien.

So, anyone here play Lord of the Rings Online? Or just fans of Tolkien? I should fit in either way.

I can verify that this group was most certainly started before the other one.

I looked through all the groups when I started mine and didn't see a LOTR one. There isn't anything anywhere that says "group started on" so I don't know how you could verify it.

The Hobbit was the first book I ever read. I've only made it through the series once, but I've knocked out The Hobbit at least three times. I wish they would've written more about Bilbo (in the series). I never got into The Silmarion, either. Wasn't it written by a family member or something?

The Silmarillion sits on my bookshelves untouched. This is the book for the hardcore LOTR fans. It is a collection of J. R. R. Tolkien's works, edited and published posthumously by his son Christopher Tolkien, with assistance from Guy Gavriel Kay, who would later become a noted fantasy fiction writer (pulled from Wikipedia).
It is pretty intimidating since it is one crazy complex history book of Middle Earth.

Wow. I'm glad I'm not the only one who ignores that book. Did you ever read any of the Terry Brooks "Shannara" series? I thought some of those were very similar in plot to LOTR. Maybe a little too similar.

How many times have you read the books or the movies?
I'm at two times for the books. Once in high school, and then again a couple years ago. I literally read non-stop for a week straight the second time around.

Hugely impressive. My only difficulty with the series is that I had a hard time keeping track of who was who. The names and cities just meshed together. Thank God for the maps -- which looked like some 2nd grader drew them... left handed!
