Would it somehow be possible to create a "Newsvine Mag" here (or just any written media thing) using a feed? Virb doesn't accept feeds in javascripts but I guess one could apply for specific ones? Or one could import a Newsvine feed to a blog and perhaps twist the layout to make the blog more visible? (But Virb groups doesn't have blogs?) I like the idea because it'd be so neat to set up a customized layout for your Newsvine group. Just a few tweaks and it could be accomplished by combining Virb and Newsvine.

Everyone like the 1-deep group comment threading here on virb? It's so. . . familiar, somehow.

Heh -- never thought about it, really. I guess it works so well that I hadn't even considered that it was the same.
I will say that Groups really ought to offer something more than a message board. (That's not to say this hasn't been surprisingly successful.)

Hrm, a simple chat lobby might be nice. Some sort of "alert" about any stuff posted to Virb tagged with the groups subject of interest. (It would be nice if I could "set" some tags for the group to alert us about, for example.)
The ability to post videos and photos to a group, maybe.

Anyone else notice that Newsvine is crawling today?
Influx of traffic due to Mike's McCain Prank?

Yeah, being there's at least four top seeds about the McCain Prank, I think his prank got nv a lot of attention!
Nice to have active discussions going on, though.

Well, it "would" be nice if I could actually get a page to load. "Crawling" was an understatement -- it seems to be at a dead stop.

yeah... i just noticed that as well. Has newsvine been Dugg and /.'d? So I came to virb to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

I haven't been able to get on the site since I last posted...the page doesn't load for me, period - combination of my net connection from work and the traffic? Go figure. I'm going through withdrawal, and being forced to actually work...

Actually -- it sounds like slashdot is the culprit.
This is bad for two reasons: Newsvine is down -- and we may get an influx of slashdot users signing up now that they've been introduced.
*Shudder*

Yeah I've been waiting for Newsvine to load since about 9:30 this morning. Newsvine is on digg, /., techcrunch, news.com, and several blogs tagged by technorati. I know this because in absence of being able to actually load Newsvine I'm looking up stuff ABOUT Newsvine. It really needs to come back soon...

On Mike's personal blog -- he says he's not yet sure whether it's a DOS or just a huge influx of users. My guess is the latter.
McCain's crowd doesn't appear to have anything sinister up their sleeve as they now credit Mike on the McCain Myspace page.
I guess it's a good thing they updated the servers -- it could have been *much* worse.

Doesn't seem to be much better today. This is kind of embarrassing for the Newsvine folks in that they're getting all of this exposure and (attempted) traffic and the site is pretty much down and out.

It seems far better today, to me -- I can actually get pages to load and comment with little hassle. Still a bit slower than normal -- but nothing "too" disastrous anymore.

Thank the Newsvine gods I was out of town for this! Florida sun and an overabundance of cocktails made me actually forget Newsvine existed for a whole week!
Okay, not really. But I did try to break into another guy's condo and try to force him, with the point of a broken cocktail stirrer, to give me the password for his wireless router.

So -- if you've joined this group and you're using a different moniker than you use on Newsvine -- or if you haven't yet joined Newsvine -- please either 1) tell us who you are by including a link to your Newsvine column or 2) mention that you're not currently a Newsvine member.
(If you answered "2" -- what are you waiting for? Go sign up -- then come back here and post a link to your column.)
Here.
I think it's pretty obvious who I am but:

You're so punny :) (I'm an invertebrate punster - so slug me).
Actually, Brian, I think our history goes back to when I was a newbie and noticed you came from my old hometown of Shawnee, and so had to pester you accordingly. Or maybe that was someone else. My memory is a bit hazy...its contagious, I think, those hazy memories.

Which is a better story than "I was a Newbie and you made me feel like I didn't deserve to be a Newvsine member."
Unfortunately "some" people accuse me of that sort of attitude.
