if training and "friendly" sparing makes you happy, I wouldn't worry about going pro. it'll come to you eventually - either you'll get interested in it, or you won't. nothing wrong with either of those, in my opinion :).
I've been studying martial arts for a total of six years now, on and off for periods, too, because of some injuries. I'm currently practicing wing chun kung fu (for almost a year now), and I've been practicing shotokan karate for 5 years during elementary school.

Greetings and salutations. I've been studying martial arts for around six years, on and off periods. I've studied World Style Tae Kwon Do for about four years, Olympic Style Tae Kwon Do for two and a half years, and a few months of Capoeira. A combination of changing schools and a back injury has prevented me from getting the black belt. Hoping to finally earn it in October, but whatever. I'm just happy to train, and while it's tempting to spar professionally, I think I'll just watch instead. My school has two people trying out for the '08 Olympics.... and I don't think I have much confidence to go up against them nor have interest to do so any time soon.
