Hm, the first Progressive Rock album I bought was probably Origin of Symmetry by Muse, if you can call that Prog Rock. ;) The next one already was Close to the Edge.

The first albums I bought back at the end of the 70's were 'And Then There Were Three' and 'The Wall'. My brother got to go and see Genesis in the early 80's but I was only 14 and my mum wouldn't let me go!! I think it's time to make up for that :)

Genesis are also touring this year, I gonna see them in Berlin. Hopefully they will perform the goold old In The Cage-Medley so I will see it at least once live before I die ;)
The new Dream Theater-Album is very similar to Train Of Thought, but a little bit more "developed".
I don't really like it, but thats because I don't like TOT as well ;)

Dream Theater is touring this summer. We'll definitely be taking them in when they come to Detroit. I haven't heard their new CD yet. Has anyone heard it? They tried putting some shorter songs in there, claiming that short songs are more of a challenge for them than the long ones.

Porcupine Tree just released their new CD, Fear of a Blank Planet. I am a huge Deadwing fan. Although I like their earlier work, I was very excited about a follow-on in the tradition of Deadwing. After my first listen, I was somewhat disappointed. I knew rightaway that it was a good effort, but FOABP lacks the strong rock hooks if its predecessor. A second listen had me forgetting all about Deadwing for the moment. I came to appreciate FOABP for what it is. It shares the darkness of Deadwing, but adds a more brooding and expansive feeling. I was reminded of how I felt when Pink Floyd followed Animals with The Wall. I loved the harshness of Animals, but The Wall was ultimately a much bigger work. The title track definitely reminds me more of Deadwing and the third track, while reminding me a bit of Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, runs almost 20 minutes and takes us through the full sonic range from ambient to heavy. This band just keeps getting better. They are coming to the Majestic Theatre in Detroit on May 30th, 2007. I'll be there. :-D

I was just going to post about PT. :) I'm going to see them in Cincinnati on 10/23 - and I'm so excited I'm about to pop. I'm a HUGE fan of "Stupid Dream," but I seem to have FoaBP on terminal repeat these days.
