The Brisbane Lions were formed by the post-1996 merger of the Brisbane Bears and Melbourne based club Fitzroy.
Reaching the finals in their first post-merger season, the club endured a small period of mediocre seasons in the late 90's followed by their infamous triple premiership winning run in seasons 2001-2003.
In 2003, the Lions became the first Grand Final participant in AFL history to have three Brownlow Medallists in its lineup, the third being 1996 winner Michael Voss. The club went on to win the 2003 premiership, defeating Collingwood in the 2003 AFL Grand Final 20.14.134 to 12.12.84, and become the first in the AFL to win three consecutive Premierships since Melbourne in 1957.
Brisbane could be without key forward Daniel Bradshaw for the upcoming AFL season because of a knee injury.
Bradshaw suffered the injury early in last night's reserves practice match and scans this morning have shown he has a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament.
He will undergo surgery early next week to determine whether he needs a full reconstruction, which would rule him out for the season.
Bradshaw, Brisbane's leading goalkicker last year, played in the reserves game because he was coming back from a hamstring injury.
Masey says:
Do I start crying at this point???
Bradshaw out for season?
