I'll be the first to say it, but how 'bout some jazz? Or maybe some funk? Put on Herbie Hancock, or The Temptations, or Miles Davis, or The Meters, or a thousand other killer bands that aren't (exactly) rock or country!

I'm all for Jazz. Sitting back and listening to some Sketches of Spain or Straight, No Chaser has become pretty common for me.

my friend and i teamed up with some kids to start a band, but my friend hasnt played guitar in awhile and needs to practice a bit. plus he doesnt usually play the type of music we are going to be, which is a mix between like grunge and noise rock, hopefully with some electronic thrown in. Anyway, I made him a mix of some of this music for a little inspiration, so I wanna ask some opinions of what other people think. Anything to add or take away that fall into those genres? Heres the track listing (starts with the rock stuff and ends with the noise rock):
Atomic Bitchwax - Shitkicker
Kyuss - Un Sandpiper
Nebula - The Eagle has Landed
Desert Sessions - Screamin' Eagle
Suicidal Tendencies - Hippie Killer
Desert Sessions - Covered in Punks Blood
Death From Above 1979 - Pull Out
The Rodeo Carburettor - Untitled
Black Mountain - Druganaut
The White Stripes - Instinct Blues
The Noisettes - Sister Rosetta (Capture the Spirit)
Sonic Youth - Pattern Recognition
Hella - The Republic of Rough N Ready
Lightning Bolt - 2Morro Morro Land
The Psychic Paramount - Echoh Air
Acid Mothers Temple - Fell Asleep on Your Lawn

The Jesus and Mary Chain's Psychocandy is the first album that springs to mind when you say Noise Rock. :)

Oh boy, have I been on a metal kick lately. I just went out and picked up a couple of slayer albums (seasons in the abyss and hell awaits) which I had on cassette back in the day but haven't listened to since I permanently retired the tape deck. Also, my local friendly record store owner informed me that mastodon is playing a show in town this month, about which I am very excited. Any other metal enthusiasts?

I like music. A lot. And a lot of it! Usually groups so broadly defined tend to suffer somewhat as more specialized groups pop up (and I'm not helping, I just started a Hip Hop group!), but it is nice to have some common ground.
What's your favorite album, of any genre, of all time?

As much as I love the cure, Disintegration has never been my fave. I usually go for the harsh, cold sound of Pornography or the loud, almost sloppy guitar-driven sound of Wish. That said, Fascination Street and Lullaby have always been some of my favorite cure songs.

Pornography's my third favourite album of all time (Faith is second), so I agree wholeheartedly that it's an amazing (nay, perfect?) album. But Disintegration? Guh, from the opening of Plainsong (I always feel like my heart will burst) to the beauty of Prayers for Rain and The Same Deep Water as You and the lyrical intensity of the title track... I just couldn't live without it. :)
