Bi-Weekly Photography Assignment

Bi-Weekly assignments for professional and amateur photographers.

This group was created to help photographers expand their creativity through bi-weekly assignments. There will be a theme every other week which will be left to your own interpretation.

Here are the rules/guidelines:

0. Please send me a friend request so that I can send you periodic reminders and announcements regarding the group. Don't worry, I'll only send you Viagra emails every once in awhile.

1. Every other Tuesday, I will post a bi-weekly theme. That means once every two weeks.

2. Photos can be submitted any time during the two week assignment.

3. Please submit one (1) photo for the theme.

4. Please make sure the the photos are embedded (no links please.) Try and keep them no more than 800 pixels wide.

5. Please post your photos as your own individual comment. That way people can reply to them directly.
Please include the theme for the photo and a title. Like this:
Assignment #XX
Theme: "Theme goes here"
Title: (insert your title here)

(insert your photo's HTML code here)

6. Only constructive criticism is allowed.

7. Voting: Voting begins on Tuesday. It lasts for one week until the following Monday. Please do not vote until Tuesday. Give everyone a chance to get their photos in so that it is fair for everyone.

You may vote for one photo for each theme, so pick your favorite. Remember when voting, you should precede any other comments with the word/phrase (all upper-case), "VOTE:" in order to have your vote counted.

8. Any submitted photo must be a NEW PHOTO photographed within the assignment's time-frame. No digging through your hard drive and finding old stuff.

9. The winner pics the next assignment theme, so make sure to pay attention if you won.

10. Once you submit a photo, you aren't allowed to withdraw it and replace it with a newer photo.

Please send me a message directly.

Let's get ready to photograph....

Bi-Weekly Photography Assignment #17:
"April Fools"

Submission Deadline: Monday, April 1st, Midnight PDT (US) .

April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day, though not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, enemies and neighbors, or sending them on fools' errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. In some countries, April Fools' jokes (also called April Fools) are only made before noon on 1 April. Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fool's_Day

The moderator for this group sucks. I can't wait until Virb has more group features so it is less work to actually run a group.

Happy Sunday everyone. Any interest in a photo assignment? I'm changing the rules to a lot less rules. Any ideas?

I'll give it some thought Grant - it seems a shame that there are 269 potential participiants and no action.
How about getting rid of deadlines for a start. Announce a theme and let people post (yeah, I know that didn't work too well - may need to rethink that part)...
Maybe something along the lines of "My favourite..." then everyone can post a pic of their favourite - location, colour, food, hairstyle, animal ... that sort of thing.
Or, a bit like the Visual Connections group - someone post a picture then someone else provides one of their own that reminds them of it - a sort of photo tag if you like.

I don't know. These groups come and go - I have loads that are more or less abandonded then spring to life if a new person joins and decides to play (for example my numbers photo group - safety in numbers - that goes quiet for months at a time).

I wouldn't give up just yet, but I can see your frustration with it all.

thanks moo. glad you at least replied. I like the idea of a visual connections group.

yes. that is true. I think we have to create something more interactive to make this group a little fun.

@moo if you can give me a heads up about new assignments i'd love to participate...

moo says:

I'm as bad as everyone else though, in that I promise to take part then never do. I'm ok with comments, and posting pics when I don't feel I have to, or there's a deadline, but as soon as the pressure is on (and I know it's unintentional pressure, just my own mind) then I go to pieces and my mind goes blank.
I'd let you know kihntoh but don't count on it. I'm thinking of cutting back myself anyway - been far too grouchy and moody lately and I don't think the amount of time I spend online can be helping that. I'm not liking the person I'm becoming right now and I need to reassess where I'm going with all this.

first time respondee. I check it as often as I can but it does seem quiet around these parts. I'd participate if there was one. it would give me something to do in between my travels and jobs.

I suggest "the mundane" - everyday life stuff that are so common we don't see anymore.

Bi-Weekly Photography Assignment #16:
Beverages

Submission Deadline: Monday, February 25th, Midnight PDT (US) .

The idea comes because I currently find myself parched. What beverage is your favourite thirst quencher? Can you do it justice with a camera in return for what it does to satisfy your thirst? It can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic. It can be water. It can be tea. It can be coffee. It can be milk. It can be a sports drink. It can be just about anything you like...just try to make it look sexy.

moo says:

both your bridge pics look great - we don't have any interesting bridges near here where I live sadly, so even if I did have till the weeked as I'd thought, I doubt I'd be able to get anything half as good as these...

posted Jan 29

the Rested Traveler says:

This was from around 8:00pm last night. We may very well have seen one another if you were out and about, too. I saw a few other people out with cameras and tripods last night, so can I assume one of 'em was you?

moo: ANY bridge can be an interesting bridge as long as it is illumnated properly at night. Check these relatively plain old bridges out (I took this one last night too - can use it as an alternate, I suppose, if there's a rule against people photographing the same bridge):

I left right around 8pm. I was over taking pictures of my office (Same building as Latitudes) towards the end of my shoot.

the Rested Traveler says:

moo: I think the deadline is at 08:00 GMT on Wednesday, 30-JAN-2008, for you...so you've still got time. :-)

mbsurf: I didn't venture down toward that part of Main. I had parked in the Bowater Garage and had done a loop around Falls Park from about 6:00pm through 8:30pm, starting with the Swamp Rabbit bridge and finishing with the Liberty bridge.

moo says:

that's tomorrow morning - I'm sitting at home now and it's 9.15 (and bloody cold and wet out so I'm not going out tonight) and I have to be at my desk at 8am tomorrow am which means I would need to get a photo on the way into work - and I KNOW there are no bridges there ...

Looks like I'm a failure yet again!
(we always used to have 2 weeks for these assignments...)

the Rested Traveler says:

I thought it was 2 weeks, too. I'll move to extend the deadline in the assignment post below. Maybe someone will second the motion and Grant will extend it for everyone.
