Longboarding

If you like to bomb hills and ride the concrete wave then join.

A longboard is a longer type of skateboard. Longboards are most commonly used for either downhill racing, slalom, or for the main reason of transportation. Due to its longer and wider base, the longboard is more stable, making the ride much safer and more comfortable than on a shortboard. Their greater weight makes them less suitable for many tricks, making most almost impossible, but contributes to a fluid motion by providing more momentum. Thus, a longboard will roll farther with a single push of the foot. Many people therefore prefer longboards to normal skateboards for cruising on streets and sidewalks. Longboarding is often compared to surfing on concrete, and the size gives riders the option of performing big turns and quick short carves just like on a surfboard.

I'm probably getting a loaded vanguard in a couple weeks. Has anyone ridden one before? I've heard they are carve machines.

If anyone is interested in a pretty cool video, check out my profile for a video of a 3-wheel longboard that I developed for a board company out of Taiwan. It is a proof of concept video, as none of the men I worked with on it spoke any english. It was a great board design and was very carvy and stable to ride. The board in the video is a prototype using a sector 9 blank deck, but the final prototype was a built from scratch deck and all. It turned out very well. I would love to hear some feedback on the idea. It doesn't replace a standard board by any means, but it was one of those cool opportunities to think outside the box a bit and create a different riding experience.

Sector 9 Cosmic 2 (38", my main downhill ride), and a 42" gravity board for cruising aroung on. Both great rides.
