Ashton says:

"Only in a culture obsessed with its own excrement are the by-products of action elevated above the action itself" - this is on one of the wheatpaste declarations next to the splasher's paint. I think that this is ridiculous. An action is a fleeting moment. It cannot be contained, (hence our fascination with video and portals like youtube.com) therefore, we appreciate the physical article as its representation. How could you measure the response to the action vs. the physical thing? And what the hell would that tell you? Enlighten me.
It is what it is.
Creating or appreciating street art can be separate from rallying against a cause or message for action - it can be simply enjoying the skill, methods, composition, and placement in the environment. What about this? What about the fact that there are, and have always been, levels of social involvement in "taking action" for or against an issue. In my opinion, the splasher's own message seems pointless. If he/she feels so strongly about the necessity to elevate real action and make people DO the things they believe in - or don't believe in, why use the same method to get your point across? The paint splash action is gone, we never saw it, and even if we did, we'd still have to read the damn posters to know exactly what the message was. And why attack street artists? I understand that this person doesn't LIKE street art is is trying to make a point about it being trite, but...ok...um...so what if it was? I don't know - it seems to me, if I felt passionate enough to splash paint and craft informative posters, I'd give people a "takeaway", something that would prompt them to DO something. This just makes me follow a link and write fragmented opinions on a social networking website. Awesome.

Overall, I can't say I'm against this type of thing. Afterall - the reason why street art moves me is because its a public canvas - and that means anything goes. However, as one who loves art, it is difficult for me to see beauti...

that's why this guy is basically just another confused asshole. people are entitled to an opinion, but talk about not expressing it in the right way... sheesh. their explanation is littered with hypocrisy.

they try to say street art alienates people, as it's only a representation of a fleeting action. well i would argue that the splashers messages and paint are pretty much the same thing. i mean, he's not going over/ splashing people as they are actively painting. all that's left behind from his grand actions are 'fetishized objects'

nothing's more fetishized than paint slung 'round recklessly, and then sold to you as being more important than itself. LOFUCKINGL.

and then he goes on to attack the bourgeois (middleclass / upperclass) when he/she's obviously:

A. a well educated middle-upper class twit who makes every effort to make you aware of the fact
B. obviously has no real concern for the working class (low wage workers will be charged with cleaning his splashes and glassed-wheat-pasted posters.)
