Politics Apocalypse says:
I am a liberal/progressive Anglican. I don%u2019t believe in an interventionist God, a literal virgin birth, etc. But I am Christian.
I am not a theist and in that sense I am an atheist.
Anyway, I am currently promoting the music album I just finished this month. It is very political and subversive and at times religious - post-industrial rock with an interesting mix of classical instruments, guitars, electronic beats, and a dash of aussie hip-hop.
You can download the whole 11 track album for free at our website. It is released under creative commons licences, which means that you are free to use and share the songs with very few limitations.
CDs are available for pre-order at cost price.
Any donations to support high quality DRM-free cost price music are welcome.
As an example here are the lyrics to "DEUS CARITAS EST (God is Love)"
God is not a being up in the sky
Judging us with his watchful eyes
God is not a being up above
God is not a supernatural being
Interceding in human history
God is not a being up above
A spiritual depth to reality
God is humanity
God is Love
Myths attempt to describe an insight
Metaphor for a way of life
Our sense of wrong and right
Describing selfless sacrifice
Literal words simply don%u2019t suffice
So we use words like %u201CChrist%u201D
God is found in nature
Found in things
God is in every single human being,
Art, religion:
The Ground of all Being
Supernatural theism
And your superstitions
Can lead to fundamentalism.
Panentheism, mysticism,
Christian humanism:
My God is Love.

Our father who art not in heaven
The fattest fairytale ever fed
fixes a folly to foil ones head.
Flattering it's host with features to attract,
it forges a fiction flavored like fact.
It's firm to force that flesh will fade
and fibers internal are forever in grade.
Made in faith this figure does flower,
framed as the most famous, favorite, phantasmal power.
Our father who art not in heaven,
figure in yet another seven
days or more
to free us from each and every war
scored in your shifty label,
your fading film like fraying fable
feeding on man's fear of death,
a fog, lacking face and breath.
Fumbling upon only what is said,
this fairytale fantasy foots to wed
man with prayer
at his bed.

I loved this. So blunt, yet soooo true. I'll show it to my theist friends. It's so frustrating living in a world that denies logic and rationality.

Its great! I'll show it to my religious friends =P
Though I don't disrespect religious people as long as they respect me as an atheist (which rarely happens).
To Emilio M:
I don't have to be religious to deny logic and rationality.
I think that word is a very magical place and this magic has nothing to do with "god".

However, this is more then just ignorance, it is willful ignorance which is by definition, stupid.

I got into a "tiff" with a co-worker a few days ago. I have a picture on my desk that says "Serve no master other than your own ambition." Someone crossed out the "your own ambition" part and wrote " you're God" (I am God? Who knew?) with a black sharpie. It's no secret at my workplace that I do not believe in God, as I have The God Delusion hardcover on my desk and have conversations with my Atheist and Buddhist co-workers on a daily basis.
Well it was just a typed sheet of paper that I had created on my spare time so I didn't consider it much of a loss, but the person that changed it was quite serious when she did it. She started emailing me random passages from the Old Testament, which I rebutted with "If you're going to convert me at least quote the New Testament, you're not helping your case."
She cornered me on my break to tell me that I'm not "keepin' it real". Apparently Since I'm Black I am obligated to practice the Christian Faith. I guess I falied to read that chapter in the "How to be a Black man in a White man's world" survival guide. I was also told that I'd be going to hell. I ask her why would she think that I would go to hell even though I live a moral life? She got quiet for a second and said that God promises Heaven and eternal happiness to all who believe in him. I look her dead in the eye and ask her if she's even READ the bible?
I told her that I've read it and the atrocities within it scare the shit out of me. Any person that has not been brainwashed with religious dogma would see that. If the only reasons you can give me are promises you can't prove are real and an appeal to race and popularity you have just lost a customer. I told her to do me a favor and worry about her own soul, as damning people to hell is not her job.
I doubt this is the last I would hear from Jesus Freak, but I though I'd share.

Those darn sheep.
I'm looking forward to getting the "God Delusion" paperback soon. I already place the order. I actually prefer paperbacks over hardcover for some reason.

i find the fervent christianity among black people surprising in one respect in as much as it was one of many tools blatantly used to subjugate them in slavery times. in another respect i do understand that it is hope for people who do not have much of it in this life. what really surprised me was when i looked at the recent paul mooney special and he started in with that jesus nonsense. i generally find him to be very smart and spot on on issues of oppression. i can't believe he of all people, as sensitive as he is to the injustices done to black people by white people would swallow this one.

I use that one often. When people say I'm going to Hell. I remind them that their holy book says they have no right to judge me on my morals. It's not up to them if I'm going to "Hell" or not. I grew up in a very religious background, so I find it refreshing that I know the Bible more thoroughly than most of my believer friends do. They barely know the Jesus story, and they misunderstand so many of the details about it just because dogma contradicts it.

He he.
When I happen to meet one of those crazy Christian fanatics I'm usually the first one to say "yeah yeah I'm going to burn in hell".
I've got bored already. Is this the only argument they got?
"You'll go to heaven if you'll start to believe" would be more convincing,
but somehow crazy Christinas always want to act so offensive and aggressive.
ehhh...
