Hey! It's Ashley, here- writing from our hotel about an hour outside of Chicago. We played the Subterranean lastnight, and had a fabulous time. The sound there was great and the audience seemed to really respond to the performance. I think we all feel pretty good about it. The Comas did a smash-up job themselves. Considering the fact that last night was only the 2nd show of the tour- I've got a feeling this is gonna be an excellent adventure (bill & ted pun totally intended).
One thing is for sure- Great Northern loves Chicago. The people are great, the shopping is good; not to mention the fabulous pizza. In fact, to be quite honest, the ladies of Great Northern were pretty disappointed that we didn't get a chance to do any shopping since we had to drive straight to our hotel afterwards, 50 miles outside of town. Darn! We're always seizing the opportunity when it comes to good thrifting, and there's plenty of that in the prairie state. Kind of a bummer...
Speaking of girlyness (yes, I know it's not a real word), both Rachel and I had quite the time changing into our "stage clothes" lastnight. It's hard to be glamorous when the weather is not in your favor. She and I did the best to change inside our cramped van and then run a few blocks back to the club while it's pouring cats and dogs, and thundering so loud you could feel it. Meanwhile, Rachel is running ahead of me completely barefoot, using her pajamas as a makeshift umbrella, asking strangers if they know where the club is ("we just came from there, Rachel."). I guess it was one of those you-had-to-be-there moments.
Thanks Chicago, for the memories. -Ashley
