Sorry I've been so scarce. Since getting back from SW Asia I temporarily traded by journal time for songwriting time. I've been getting up at 7am almost every morning to write. There is something about the quiet of the morning combined with a good cup of coffee and a cat or two in the room as the audience that just seems to agree with my creative process. As a songwriter I can tell you that life isn't any sweeter than when the creative juices start gushing.
I've been working on four new songs since my return and actually just started another one with a friend of mine this week! It's amazing how things brew and develop subconsciously. Even when you step away and forget about something it's still developing. Patience and faith in the process is key. I often wonder when but always know that the next one will come to me. I think that keeps me from tweaking when I'm not writing.
Yesterday I actually went to the studio to work on some demos. I'm never really chomping at the bit to get into the studio but lately I have been. I guess it's a natural progression after writing a bunch of songs. Now, I don't want to give anyone any crazy ideas. We won't put out a new record until 2008 sometime. However, it sure is nice to know that the material will more than be there.
On a different note, I've asked our technical powers that be to change the format of the journal section into more of a true blog where those of you reading can instantly post a comment about what you might have just read. When that happens I am going to do my best to spend atleast part of my coffee time every morning with all of you. Hope you are ready for that!
Until,
Alan
