macular degeneration is aggravated by direct sunlight. so, the glasses have to cover the entire peripheral vision and that gap between the lenses and their foreheads. honestly, though, i think they'd wear them regardless. the "elderly" may chide youth for being so individualistic but it really seems like old people relish being weird, themselves.
